So...I can now go to matinees.
And pay 'honored citizen' prices.
I have yet to see the new Star Wars film.
I have yet to see the new Bryan Cranston vehicle using the story of Dalton Trumbo's triumph over the blacklists of the fifties....Trumbo.
The one I'm really itching to see is the soon to be released Coen brothers film, Hail, Ceasar! It looks like a scream.
Anybody have any other recommendations? I'm finding it a bit thin on the ground here, but that might be a transient condition.

I want to see Hail Caesar, too. A guy I went to high school with is an extra innit.
I also reallyreallyreally want to see Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.

I saw Star Wars and thought it was great!
I've heard good reviews regarding Spotlight. I also want to see Hateful 8.

Is anyone going to see Deadpool?

Which one is Deadpool? Sounds so familiar but I think I keep confusing it with Deathproof and thinking it's an old movie!

We have seen it. It was great, even though it had a lot of scenes in it that were close to not being tolerable for me, but we laughed a lot.

I enjoyed it a lot, although I'd certainly not expect it to be universally so.

ETA: Well...Swimmer and I went to see this one today. I think that is the most thoughtful, and darkest, black comedy I have seen in years. I don't think I've ever been to a comedy where I wept in the middle of the film. Top rate performances by McDormand and Harrelson, as well as Sam Rockwell (as the dim police officer). Also, I loved the fact that most of the characters look like real people, not pretty Hollywood people (Peter Dinklage has a supporting role as the town midget who is trying to make moves on McDormand's character, Mildred). If this comes your way, I heartily recommend you see Three Billboards. Mature audiences only. Next up: Roman J. Israel, Esq. with Denzel Washington.

I went to see the new Bladerunner film, Bladerunner 2049.
Meh.
It's okay, but it's no Bladerunner.

We saw that one too. It's been ages since I saw the old one, but I liked the new one. Probably have to re-watch the old one to be able to compare it.

I can't help thinking of Oscar Pistorius when you mention Bladerunner.

I watched the original Blade Runner a few weeks ago. I think it's one of those films where any kind of sequel was always going to fall short of expectations.

I just can't get over the rape scene in the original Blade Runner and it spoils the movie for me.
I really want to see The Teacher - a Slovak film set during the communist era about how a teacher manipulates parents so that their kids get good grades. Something like that. Supposed to be very good. My dad tells me I have to go see it to understand why we left.

Although I really don't want to, I will probably watch Jigsaw at some point. But not at the cinema.

Yes...Go see Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri.
Good film. Black comedy. Take a hanky. Excellent performances by Frances McDormand, Woody Harrelson, Sam Rockwell, and Peter Dinklage.

Okay...Here it is autumn again and I'm checking the new and pending releases. I'm 'cinema ready'.
Looking at what is really playing, though, is disappointing. I suppose I'd be interested in seeing The Current War: Director's Cut, and maybe JoJo Rabbit and/or Gemini Man.
Pending, though, is far more interesting to me....Midway, Motherless Brooklyn, Mr. Jones, and All Is True, all due to be released before the end of the year. All period historical dramas. One modern war battle, a detective suspense, a photojournalist adventure, and a great man musing upon his retirement....
And, I need to keep a lookout for A Private War, which is probably in second run theaters by now. I'd love to see Rosamund Pike do Marie Colvin.
Anybody got any wanna sees or have seens?

It's been several years since I've been to a movie theatre. If it ain't on Netflix, I ain't watchin' it! (And the Netflix choice is Canada is abysmal compared with the US version.) Recently I've been watching the second season of "The House of Flowers" an over-the-top Mexican tongue in cheek telenovella. I also just finished season 3 of "This is Us". But I find it a bit distracting because Milo Ventimiglia is a friend of my daughter's and I can't wrap my mind around Tasha's Milo being an actual actor. I also watch a lot of Bollywood.

Bollywood is, like, stylized soap opera, isn't it?

Yes! But it's all played out over a couple of hours rather than decades.

Yups. It wasn't bad. Lots of senseless violence, a bit of humour, lots of gaps in the story and a lot of girl power.

Haven't been to the cinemas in a while but I just got my free 10 day trial of Foxtel so I could watch episode 1 of His Dark Materials. It was pretty good, even with James McAvoy playing Lord Asriel. He's not great.

Do you mean he isn't great at all ever, or just that he's not right for Asriel?
