Okay...I'm booked on Air Canada. Watch out UK, the invasion date has been set.
...Springtime in Pembroke and Cumbria-a-a-a-a-aaaa.
I think I can book my Dragon ride ahead without specifying a particular date....on Facebook.

Kelly you're welcome to stay with us if you don't mind a messy house If you do I can recommend B and Bs I've learned that 'messy' is a subjective term and has wide interpretation. I'll visit, for sure. I do intend to use you as something of a central foray point for the immediate region, so I'll be there for multiple days and that will depend upon how fast I cover ground up to that point. If I book in to the Orkney tour, I will probably leave your place, bound for Aberdeen, to arrive there the day before my ferry departure (which I think will be May 27). At this point, my best bet is to book into a modest B&B where I might bail out after or two, if I can accept alternate conditions. I do not sleep quietly. I have to wear a CPAP at night, so I require electric power outlet near the bed. It's a fair amount of 'white noise'. (This, by the by, prevents my snoring, which used to make me popular in youth hostel settings.)

Kelly we've had guests who have the thingy machines before. But there are some good and very cheap B and Bs around here too .. there's a lovely one about five minutes walk from our house (google The Mansion, Woodhouse).

The Mansion sure sounds posh but looks just the ticket. It's nice to have a fallback.

LOL...I was in a bit of wonder as to what I was going to do after arriving in Heathrow. Get outta town is my usual tendency....but to where?
I was thinking Bristol, as I remember the youth hostel there being quite nice and on the waterfront. It's not Bath, which somehow 'bothers' me.
On a whim, I Googled the FAA museum I supposed there to be and, voila, it is in Yeovilton, about three miles dead south of Glastonbury. Of course, it's as the crow flies, so it's not 'just down the road'. It's close enough to the direction I'm headed and puts me close to Taunton, which is near the location of what I suspect is the source my paternal family name. In itself interesting...one is near the FAA museum, the other, same name, is near the RAF museum in Cosford.
ETA: That looks very difficult to get to on public transport. Curious for the FAA. A goodly way from the sea, too. What's up with that?

I looked up my patronymic town and, boy, is it boring. I don't know how that area got designated as worthy of a ducal title.

Kelly, The Mansion is where I stayed when I was at Jo's. It's not super fancy, but very homey and comfy. And they have great breakfasts!

Here's a question....From Chester, is it easier to take train to South Parkway (the marked airport) in Liverpool, or to Airport Central in Manchester? The national rail map makes both look excessively convoluted.

The national rail map makes both look excessively convoluted. You might find this rail map easier. Liverpool Airport is difficult to get to wherever you come from but from Chester, I'd go to South Parkway. Manchester Airport would probably take about the same amount of time but there's a longer walk from the rail terminus to the departure lounge.

Thanks, Steve...
From Chester, it looks like taking the Wirral Line to connect to the Northern Line at Moorfields or Central to go to South Parkway and the Airport?
What does the dashed line from Liverpool South Parkway out to the airport icon represent? An airport shuttle line or something?
[ETA: Ah, I see the note in the upper left corner....John Lennon Airport, eh?....And, are 'City Centre' (per the airport shuttle note) and 'Central' station (as showing on the Liverpool route map) the same thing? That is not clear.]
So, now I'm curious as to whether the 'Northern Line' also connects to the Ferry departure point...
[EATA: Mossley Station, right on the Northern Line circuit through the central city.]
That gives me a pretty decent choice at that point. It might be better to ferry over and fly from Douglas back to the main island, rather than from Liverpool to Douglas.
[EATA: Citywings to and from Douglas through Blackpool looks to be muuuuuch better, though. Priced at $25 pounds one way.]

From Chester, it looks like taking the Wirral Line to connect to the Northern Line at Moorfields or Central to go to South Parkway and the Airport? Yes. Use Google Maps to select a journey from Chester Station to South Parkway and select public transport. It gives you four or five options, one of which may be your suggested route. What does the dashed line from Liverpool South Parkway out to the airport icon represent? An airport shuttle line or something? Shuttle is too grand a word for it but essentially, yes. It's a 15-minute regular bus service. You have to allow time for this. You wouldn't want to walk. [ETA: Ah, I see the note in the upper left corner....John Lennon Airport, eh?....And, are 'City Centre' (per the airport shuttle note) and 'Central' station (as showing on the Liverpool route map) the same thing? That is not clear.] No, it means the central bus station, Liverpool ONE Bus Station, not far from the Liverpool Central railway station. "Central" is a misnomer, it's just more central than other places. The main station for long distance rail travel is Liverpool Lime Street. So, now I'm curious as to whether the 'Northern Line' also connects to the Ferry departure point... I think ferries depart from the Pier Head Ferry Terminal near Albert Dock in which case the closest station is James Street. The Liverpool ONE bus station is also close by and within walking distance, as are most of the 'central' railway stations. Google maps shows how close they are if you zoom in sufficiently.

Hmmm... This is what draws me to Pembroke Docks. At one time, the RAF Coastal Command hosted the world's largest seaplane base from Pembroke Dock. Of course, across the inlet is Milford Haven, which interests me because of my first assigned lines in a Shakespearean play, CymbelineIV,2,2740: I've always rather wondered what that scene was supposed to look like, with a full Roman invasion happening before us as I addressed my commander.

Clearly a Watership Down lover. And Narnia and LOTR and ...
The actual place names in the wrong place (Braintree! Cardigan!) are not as amusing as the so-close-to-actual ones. Oughghough! Borough-upon-Mappe! Dampshire!

Oughghough caught my eye. Then the clustering of anatomicals, Eyemouth, Earhand, and Hairskull made me wonder if down around Cardigan there might also be towns, perhaps smaller, which have names like Pullover and Veeneck.
And Fhqwhgads...I'll have to make a point of dropping in and clearing my throat.
Somebody here lives in Dampshire, don't they?

There is a small town near where we live called Disley, which Sarah thinks is short for Dismal and Drizzly. As we approached the town on the first occasion, I exclaimed, "This is Disley," and Sarah thought it was.
