I had a guy at work once who couldn't think of the right term for 'manual' and asked if he could 'see my thing'. I guess that's not the same as yours.

For the record I did not, at first, have the faintest idea what The Thing was. I knew that it was GoT related because it said 'Winter is Coming.' But other than that I honestly did not know .. I actually thought at first that it might have been a keyring. And I did not dare to assault The Thing too much just in case I did some damage to it so I had to wait till Col could look at it and tell me what it all meant...

I have a clue - I heard someone saying they were planning to send a thing of GoT episodes.

Sounds like a USB thing. Thumb drive. It goes into a computer-type thing. Though mine is promiscuous and goes into my dvd player also.

Ah that sort of thing. I label a lot of things thing. Ronald often gets annoyed cos I say stuff like "You know that thing from the thing.". I've decided it must be because I spent my entire day at work talking and having to be articulate, that I give up by the time I'm home.

No, I think it's something something female. I do the same and so do my mother, sister and MIL. And if people don't understand what I mean, I'll go "You know, the THING! From the thing. Oh, you know what I mean...!" But as you said, I have this mostly in home-situations and not a lot with colleagues or parents. I do sometimes get stuck on "thing" in the middle of classes though...
