But the US will have fucked up Iceland too ... since it's part of the world. And more Americans are visiting it per year than there are Icelandic citizens.

Don't forget the British.
Last year, 1.262.000 visitors arrived in Iceland through Keflavík, the main airport, of which 243.000 came from the US and 241.000 from the UK. (That was last year and it is believed this year, American visitors have soared, so that these figures don't contradict Joe's.)
The population of Iceland is 323.000.

My fave weather lady went to Iceland a few weeks ago. I had to watch other people doing the weather, which I didn't like. I'm very set in my ways when it comes to watching my news breakfast in the morning. But I follow her on facebook so at least I saw some pretty pictures.

I know three people who have been to Iceland. Doesn't appeal to me, but I can see why some people might like it.

One of my maths teachers spent a whole year touring Iceland, including remote villages that were cut off in winter.

One of my maths teachers spent a whole year touring Iceland, including remote villages that were cut off in winter. Was it supposed to be a whole year?

I don't know One of the gems he told us was that remote villagers were fluent in Latin until about 1880 because they told stories in Latin to pass the time in the long winter months.

My best friend from school went there as part of her medical training. She was allowed to choose any country on earth and she went for Iceland.

I'd have chosen the Bahamas

I think I would too. That said she had to work in a hospital during that time so maybe the standard of medical care was a factor

My daughter went to Iceland last year and loved it. She said she had never been so happy in her life.
