I'm avoiding it. I have to meet a couple I'm marrying in the late evening tomorrow. Then I'll go to bed. I just want the whole business to be over...

I am seriously thinking of disconnecting myself from the web until the count is finished. What time will we see the US election results in the UK and what is the timetable for the night? Most of tomorrow UK time is voting. Apart from some odd places, the first polls will close at 23:00 GMT, 22.5 hours from now. Then the counts begin. This page says 04:00 GMT (23:00 ET) is the "Earliest possible time the election will be “called” for either candidate by US TV networks" I have no intention of saying up on Tuesday night & Wednesday morning to follow it. I'll find out on Wednesday.

It feels like doomsday is coming. I would like to stay up and know as soon as possible, but I have places to go and things to do on Wednesday. Everybody will talk about the election result with relief or worry. What will it mean for the world? With Hillary Clinton business as usual (which can be bad enough), with Donald Trump - haywire.

22 hours til the first polls close. It will be interesting, that's for sure.
They were talking tonight about what Trump's reaction will be if (read: when) he loses. I'm actually more concerned over the Senate races. If the Dems can regain control of the Senate then Bernie Sanders becomes chair of the Senate Budget Committee!

I wonder if Trump will do a concession speech or be a petulant little boy, poke his lower lip out and refuse.

He has a history of refusing to accept things. He refused to accept Obama's birthplace, for example.

Well...Here it is Election Day.
All the polls are open, nationwide, at this point. It's almost noon here on the west coast.
I'm wondering whether the election will be called before our 'polls' close at 8 pm here in Oregon. The only thing we have going for us is the behemoth of Electoral College votes is directly to the south of us (California) and in the same time zone. Howsomever....That has not stopped media outlets in the past from 'calling' the election well before Oregon (and California) polls have closed.
I'm betting at least one major national network will call the winner of the presidential election prior to 8 pm PST.
Eight hours and counting....

Release of ballot counts traditionally only happens after the polls close. First to close will be New England and the east coast. Early returns will come from there.
What did I plan for this evening?
Well...I have a massage slated. I certainly hope it happens, because a massage starting at 7:30 pm (my usual) would put me in front of the TV at about 9 pm.
A light snack while I survey the damage....that would be nice.

I still don't quite understand how Americans vote. When I vote, I take a ballot for the party I want to vote for. But what does the ballot look like in USA, name of electors?

The Beeb says the first results are likely at midnight UK time. That's like 15 minutes ago.
So far Trump 19, Clinton 3, but that doesn't exactly mean anything.

Kentucky, West Virginia and Indiana for Trump, Vermon for Clinton. But I gather that Florida is more important.
But what is this shooting in LA?

I am just watching possibly one of the stupidest people I've ever seen being interviewed on the BBC. He actually referred to himself as 'a white person.'

I still don't quite understand how Americans vote. When I vote, I take a ballot for the party I want to vote for. But what does the ballot look like in USA, name of electors? Here on a typical ballot the voter chooses between candidates for specific positions, and between positions on 'ballot measures'. In many races, the choice is between candidates of one political party against the candidates of the other party, as in the case of presidential campaigns. I reality, for those presidential candidates they are voting for a slate of electors, who come the appropriate time will cast their votes as per the direction of the voters of the state. Each state is allotted a given number of votes in the Electoral College, based upon how many Representatives and Senators the state sends to Congress (my state has seven votes). Typically, it is a 'winner takes all' by state. As returns come in, pay close attention to the 'percentage of precincts reporting'. In close races, this is important.
