The Trump administration? I do not really know WHAT to expect though I am certainly not sanguine. Is it possible that things might be 'okay' or might it be even worse than we fear that it might? What is he likely to start with? HOw are people likely to respond to it - both his supporters and his detractors? What are his relationships with the rest of the world's leaders likely to be?

Trump and the Trump administration are completely different things. Trump is unpredictable, a loose cannon, who will anger many world leaders but the world leaders in return probably see him as a buffoon (like Silvio Berlusconi).
In some ways though he's not the danger. The danger is the big-business neo-fascist old white men he's appointed into every position of the administration. They can do untold damage, with no checks from a fully Republican Senate and House (whatever the terms are) and Supreme Court.

Well yes this. But Silvio what's his name did not have his finger on the nuclear button and let's be honest, no-one has ever taken Italy's government(s) seriously anyway. Even my Italian relatives don't.

I didn't know you had Italian relatives. And would admit to that. That's almost as bad as Yank relatives.
JoeP's assessment is spot on. And I think I'm the first American to chime in here. I have major dreads about this coming administration.
We are about to enter a period where the government will be nominally controlled by a kakistocracy, one owned pretty much outright by kleptonomic plutocrats.
I have no optimism at all about any possible outcome. I hope we can survive to replace it with something sane. I'm beginning to wonder what shape that will take.

I can't remember the source but I do recall a statement that, 'When fascism comes to the US it will be draped in the Stars and Stripes'.

Father - the quote was, wrapped in the Stars and Stripes and carrying a cross.

What's wrong with having Italian relatives?! Nothing. Just like having Yankee relatives.

I've seen the quote FrG is talking about, can't recall where either.

Although it is usually attributed to Sinclair Lewis, the author of _It Can't Happen Here_, it has never been found amongst his writings or speeches.
The phrase as I usually hear it is, "When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a Bible."

Go look.
Close, but no cigar. Which is probably a good thing.
It's one of those apocryphal unattributable quotes. It can be tortured any number of ways and everybody still 'recognizes' the quote.

It's accurate, which is all that matters.
