The summer before last I actually made really big strides in the garden .. got some borders dug, some things planted, etc. And then this last summer I didn't bother. I really need to get out and do it again .. apart from anything else, it's good for me to get out into the fresh air. I need to get out some point and see what damage being ignored for a year has done to what I planted though.

Yes! Do it!
But not yet. Cold, soggy, not growing.

Yeah not yet. But I am working on the presumption that in another six weeks it will be gardening weather. Still feels like mid winter - well technically because it is - at the moment. Nothing growing and dark all the time.

Traditionally, gardeners wreck their backs at Easter time. That's when you should start.

Maybe gardeners should start a bit earlier with some easy work to build up back strength!

But they never do, at least most gardeners don't.

Wow. We typically still have snow on the ground here at Easter time.

It's pruning time here.
I'm still unenthused, but I'll have to get out and about soon. This past weekend and the next few days are supposed to be idyllic for such endeavors. Suiting up and going outside is such a burden, though...

Too bloody cold here to be doing anything outside for a prolonged period of time

We had two brief day interludes, separated by several days of cool rain, when the sun came out. I used that opportunity to start pruning on my grapes and jasmine. I did not finish. I have not even started on the roses, but then, the forsythia has not yet bloomed, so I'm still not rushed about it.
In the past, when I was still working, I'd take the Friday before President's Day off and work four days straight over that weekend to get all my pruning done. In those circumstances, I'd be out there in all but the most daunting of climatic conditions (limited time, y'know?) pruning. With retirement, I can slack more, and do...
