It was lovely, I ate most of it on the motorway back from a hospital appointment.

I hope the appointment went well. My sandwich was just a breadroll with cheddar cheese amd cucumber.

I do not care for bananas, and definitely would not put them in sandwiches

What about banana and nutella with a sweeter bread like brioche? (Not sure if you can get brioche in Cumbria. Might be too foreign.)

Ooo ... or ... slices of banana bread with bananas in between.

We can get brioche here! *to be said with great dignity*
But I'd still not put bananas in it

I had a delicious sandwich yesterday. Finally checked out this Jewish deli sort of place (though open on Saturday so not strictly run by Jews I guess). Anywho, it was soo good with actual from a turkey breast, not those procesed slices, and yummy red cabbage and pickles and swiss cheese and russian dressing on rye. Sooooo good.

That does sound very good. I haven't been eating proper sandwiches lately. Mostly just Weetabix, fruit and maybe 1/2 peanut butter sandwich.

Weetabix sandwiches? Rasp, it sounded great till you ruined it by putting it on rye

No, not Weetabix sandwiches. I don't think that would work.

Would it???

I highly doubt it

I wouldn't want to try it.

Very dry, a weetbix sandwich, I should think.
And rye bread is lovely. Not the horrid dark, super hard stuff they sell in NL and other places. The lovely, soft eastern european jewish kind.

At scout camp, we used to spread butter and jam on a wheetabix when there was no milk. You're right, it makes for a very dry sandwich.

Is that even chewable?

It must have been because we did, though I never liked it.

Don't think I've ever seen rye bread that was not black and looking like a huge heavy brick

I went on a youth camp in Germany in my early 20s and we were given sandwiches with bread that was black. I guess that must have been rye bread.

You may have even had light rye breads and just not realised it cos you are assuming only black breads are rye. The light rye's are mixed with wheat flour and are lovely and fluffy.

Maybe I need to be more adventurous bread wise. I tend not to go much further than cheapo sliced white - occasionally cheapo white rolls.

The worst kind. A good white loaf is one thing, but cheapo white bread just tastes of nothing bready IMO. You could try a white bread that has a bit of grain in it perhaps? Or at least covered in grains on top. I love grainy breads.

Black bread isn't that nice. I used to get it, wanting to be extra healthy, but never enjoyed it that much (unless as a sandwich mixed with a slice of white bread). I have given up on buying that.
