I hadn't eaten much when we went to my mum's last night so I raided her freezer and found a frozen paella, which I heated up. It had squid in it .. a substance that I've always felt looked like rolled up condoms and had never voluntarily put in my mouth before. In the spirit of new discovery though I did try one of the squid pieces. It wasn't awful - I mean , to be honest, it didn't taste of anything really. Thoughts on squid?

As a foodstuff, ... squid-gy.
As a lifeform, amazing. They are quite intelligent and are capable of amazing colour changes for camouflage and possibly for communication.

I had some excellent squid in Cuba when I was there. Fresh squid, on the grill with garlic and wine. No breading at all. Super yummy.

I love salt and pepper squid, too!
Deep fried battered squid - calamares - are lovely when they're done properly. Sadly it's all too easy to overcook them till they become rubbery - they only take a couple of minutes.
