Christmas is over by the 25th We used to keep the Christmas decorations up until twelfth night when we were children.

I passed a house with a decorated tree today. I was so happy to have spotted the first one! I had a game going with Peter who'd spot the first, so I won.

Decorating before Halloween seems too early.

Here a lot of people don't consider decorated trees as a Christmas thing, more of a dark-season thing. Some people around where I live have had lit up trees and balconies for a few weeks now, though others don't traditionally start until the first advent Sunday. That is unusually late this year, however.

In Germany, people usually decorate trees on December 23rd or December 24th. We like to do it early, but not really before the first advent Sunday. We might get an artificial tree this year. They are not nearly as expensive as I thought they would be and it is very hard to find a real Christmas tree before mid-December.

Dark season being roughly October to March, right?

Three years ago, we bought a table-top Christmas tree for £20. It came in a red pot 16cm in diameter, so it was quite small. But we planted it in the garden and it grew to twice its height in one year. We (that is, I) dug it up and repotted it last Christmas. This year, it is three times the height and looks very healthy. I just hope I can repot it without damaging the root system too much. With luck, it will do us for four years, which is really good value. After that, I think it will have grown too big to use inside.

Dark season being roughly October to March, right? Don't be ridiculous! October to February. When I say decorated trees above I mean outdoor ones, or balcony rails or other fixed objects. Indoor trees are generally not decorated here either until the 23rd or 24th.

I just hope wee don't have idiotic neighbours living opposite us who feel the need to decorate with lots of blinking lights and stuff. That would really ruin my evenings and drive me insane. I'm quietly optimistic since people loving blinking lights and lots of it, tend to deck out their houses early in the year and there are no signs of decorations yet.

I'm not fond of blinking lights either. Normal ones are fine.

We have had spambots before, but they are usually deleted
