What are the implications of Trumps decision to call Jerusalem the Israeli capital? Virtually all of the responses I have seen in the media have been negative, apart from the inevitable crowing from the nasty Right crowd in the US. Is this likely to be as bad as people are making out?

It already is. There have been protests in many Islamic countries, and Hamas have called for another intifada. It was a deliberately inflammatory move on Trump's part.

No, it was Trump making good on an election promise. A promise that was made to Americans who care only about their own opinions and religions and not about the effect their opinion would have on reality. It was a stupid thing to do, because reality is not as simple as declaring a city the capital of a country and presto, magically everyone agrees that's the way it should be. I blame ignorance and short-sightedness of people wishing for this. The only thing I blame Trump with (of?) is not caring that his election promise is a silly fairytale and using it to score point with Americans over the backs of Israeli, Palestinians and every other country involved.

Stupid move I would say. What's stupider is that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is still ongoing after so many decades. The solution, in my humble opinion, is rather simple: two states and Jerusalem as an international zone ruled by the UN, or an independent state like the Vatican, with rotating rule between Christians, Muslims and Jews. That this has not been implemented yet is either because of stubborn fundamentalists on both sides, or some party that profits from keeping the conflict alight, or both. Or I simply don't know what I'm talking about.

In my opinion it's because of the countries backing Israel and Palestinia. Since they refuse to compromise, and since they all refuse to condemn the atrocities committed by both sides, the problem rages on.
