"No deal is one of those really bad ideas, like shell suits or Celine Dion, which we thought we could leave in the past. But this summer it's somehow all the rage. It's discussed as if it were just another Brexit option.
It is not. No-deal is probably the most demented policy put forward by mainstream British politicians in the modern era. To see how it would work in practice, this piece looks at what would happen on day one. Doing this for the whole economy would take countless pages of Stephen-King-style horror, so it's stripped down to one topic: food. This is the story of how our system for importing and exporting food implodes almost instantly."Continued at... www.politics.co.uk/blogs/2018/07/27/this-is-what-no-deal-brexit-actually-looks-like

Sounds lovely. Brexit was stupid from the get-go anyhow.

Of course.
I wonder if the British politicians who know that are waiting for disaster to swing public opinion the right way ... because they don't think they can succeed politically by being clear on it now.
And I suspect a lot of the EU negotiators are keen on making it as difficult as possible, to deter other countries with "exit" factions.

Exactly. Somehow, I've switched off to caring. Deborah's getting married one month after Brexit. Perhaps I should have a word with the caterers.

I can't believe it would be allowed to come to that. But it will. It's crazy.

And the Brexiters will all find someone else to blame - of course. Probably Theresa May will be the fall person.

What is wrong with Celine Dion, she sings lovely?
The populist Swedendemocrats and the Leftist party both want to do a "Swexit" and leave EU. I think it is a very bad idea. Sweden is a small country, we have no Commonwealth and no "special relationship" with USA. Let's wait and see how it goes with Brexit. If Brexit means things get worse for Great Britain, then it would surely go even worse for Sweden.
Of course, one reason people are against EU are the contributions we have to pay to EU. And incompetence and corruption in Brussels. But I think the advantages surpass the disadvantages.
I sometimes feel sorry for Theresa May. She did not want Brexit herself but has to fight for it. And yes, she will probably be the scapegoat.

Of course, one reason people are against EU are the contributions we have to pay to EU. And incompetence and corruption in Brussels. Many of those issues are things of the past. If you look at what they did the last 5 years or so, they really accomplished a lot. That said, it is a slow-moving organ, mostly because some countries keep feeling that they have to negotiate special deals for themselves. Aside from that the continuous moving from Brussels to wherever is of course ridiculous and very costly. That's something that seriously needs to be taken care of.

Ah, the travelling circus. 12 times a year the EU-parliament is moved from Brussels in Belgium to Strasbourg in France. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Parliament#SeatThe EU-parliament has voted against the "travelling circus" but in vain. France wants it so and Germany pampers France. The only one who gains is France. As if EU was made to indulge France.
