On Monday night a man set himself on fire in front the Bremen train station. According to the news, people ran after him, using their phones to take pictures and videos of the burning man.
I don't understand why anyone would even want to see that. I would find that extremely traumatic and am glad I wasn't there. But to run after the man, taking pictures, is the worst. I find that deeply disturbing.

I can't say I think mobile phones have really improved human empathy or ethos any. Why did the man light himself up though?

Why did the man light himself up though? Apparently he had severe mental health problems and wanted to commit suicide. Police were there and put the fire out. He was taken to a special hospital in Hamburg.

Poor guy! And yeah, people can be assholes. I find it impossible to understand that anyone would want to see that. From what I read, it was traumatic even for the police, so why not for the people who were filming and taking pictures?

I've heard of people standing under a potential suicide on top of a tall building and filming and shouting 'jump'
