I think I'd like to decorate on the weekend of the first of Advent. And put the tree up which will be interesting with a baby that demands attention, but Malcolm might enjoy the lights and the colours. Am generally quite stressed atm, but decorating or baking a round of Christmas biscuits are nice things which I don't want to miss out on.

Yes, he probably won't care much, though. But he loves looking at lights. And I'm glad we get to celebrate Christmas as a family.

There are at least 3 houses nearby that have full-on Christmas lights and window decorations already! Getting silly now!

I haven't been out for weeks. .. am trying to motivate myself to go out by the prospect of looking at nice lights.

We don't even get our tree until after our oldest son's birthday, which is in late November. To me, it's not Xmas season until I see Santa at the end of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade.
That said, I put the tree up, and the kids have done all of the decorating, including the lights. It's been wonderful!

I managed to have the tree up and decorated by the first of Advent. And then members of my family talked about how "all the Americans" out their trees up early and I didn't dare to say that ours was up at home. Most Germans do it on the night before December 24th and then only switch the lights on in the evening.

Putting up your tree at the start of Advent is a lovely thing to do. If you left it until Christmas Eve, you wouldn't have one of your own at your own house.
Christmas Eve was, originally, the first few hours of Christmas Day because the day, in the 17th century and earlier, started at sunset.

Ours went up right after sinterklaas, but I took out my advent candles and star earlier.

I have had to throw away quite a few lights. Some of them were over 15 years old and not safe.
