I just finished some YouTube video about how to make a 'good cuppa' with teabags. Some toff at some southern England uni nattering on with a smug pursed smile on his face.
He had three basic recoommendations:
1. Dispense with the styrofoam cup, as it 'steals' flavor. Make sure you have a ceramic or glass cup.
2. Filter your water before boiling. This removes a lot of the minerals and prevents the 'floating flotsam' on your cuppa.
3. Steep for five minutes. Don't 'dip and poke' and fish your teabag out in 30 seconds or less. More flavor and more of the reputed health benefits (anti-oxidents) are imparted to the tea by steeping it longer. Besides, it won't be cool enough to drink immediately, anyway.
In the process of expanding on point one, he asserted that a red coloured teacup (or mug) will impart more 'sweetness' and make it more 'flavorful' as a psychological benefit. I personally think it's balderdash. I prefer white cups, particularly on the interior surfaces. This is so that I can clearly and readily see the beverage level. I have black cups, and other dark color cups; I tend to use these for ice water. I have one red cup, a trinket I bought at our favorite sidewalk cafe in Budapest, and, yes, I make tea in it. Well, I tend to drink anything in it, because it is presently my favorite mug. I have not noticed that my tea tastes any better in the red mug than it does in any of the white mugs.
And...in all that, there was not a single comment about whether one places the teabag in the cup and add water, or put the water in the cup and add the teabag. Evidently, that is naught but a tempest in a teapot.
How about you? What is the colour of your teacup?

Pretty.
I don't drink tea and my coffee cups are pretty standard. As long as they hold a goodly amount of coffee, I'm fine with whatever comes out of the cupboard.

To be fair, those Spode tea cups generally stay in the cupboard as they are quite small - and I use regular-sized mugs. Of varying colours.

Aw, cheese, JoeP...
Just when I had you pictured as far more cultured and refined than I expected. Truly a trophy English boyfriend.
Now, that dream is dashed. No JoeP with defiant pinky aloft, swilling from a Spode.
Naught but humdrum JoeP, mugging with the rest of us hoi polloi.
*sigh*

As a side interest, does anybody here make their tea with a teapot and loose tea? And then pour?
I don't. I make my tea right in the mug. One teabag per mug; no reuse of teabags.

I'm awaiting my new mug. I bought it from CBS, specifically the Late Show with Steven Colbert. It was to help federal workers with meeting obligations during the shutdown. It is a plain white mug with black text on the outside that states: DON'T TALK TO ME UNTIL I GET MY PAYCHECK.

I have mugs with differing colours. When I make tea for myself it's just a bag, which may be re-used for a second cuppa, but I do like to go out for a nice cup of tea made in a pot with real leaves etc.

Pot vs mug: Sometimes a pot at home when there's more than one of us having tea at the same time. But always bags ... somewhere I have a wire mesh container for loose leaf tea (to put in the pot), and probably a tea strainer (to put over the cup), but I don't think I own any loose leaf tea at the moment. Having tea leaves in the bottom of your cup is so unnecessarily old-fashioned.

Yes...I have all the accoutrements for a pot. I have accumulated tea toys for years. I really like the spring-loaded snapping spoon, but there are also mesh balls and wicker strainers.
However, I have no loose tea at the moment. And...haven't for years.

Do you 'hot' your pot before you steep your brew?

Yeah, but holding those classic Spode cups practically forces one's hand into the 'raised pinky' form....it's uncanny.

Heh...Me using a strainer. I had a wicker strainer. I assumed that I put the loose tea in the strainer and then poured the hot water through such and set the strainer in the pot to steep with the tea leaves.
But, noooooo....I was told. You don't want your tea to taste like wicker! You dish the loose tea in to the hot water in the pot and let it steep. THEN, when you pour out the tea, you place the strainer between the pot spout and the cup, to catch the tea leaves en route. D'oh! (*faceplam*...'Merkins!)

I got a lovely new orange mug for drinking tea at work. It's 440ml so I get a good amount of tea in one hit. At home I have my Buffy mug with Giles quotes which is mostly white. Most of the time I use tea bags, but I do have some lovely loose leaf French Earl Grey (well actually I just ran out so need to replenish, but usually I have it) and occasionally make a mug or a pot of that. I especially like to do that if I have a particularly nice treat to go with the tea.
When using teabags, I always pour the hot water over the teabag. At work, I tend to leave the bag in as I can't be bothered waiting 5 minutes every time I want tea. I just get hot water from the hot water tap and go.
I don't understand why anyone would use a styrofoam cup for their tea? Gross. Also, how bad for the environment!

Past tents and past tense. If it is past tents, it must be 'ran', not 'run'.
It is a dorky 'dad-joke'...a pune, I believe you call them, raz. It's a bad pun.
