That's the name of the outfit. A box of treats from a different country each month. They have testimonials, too. Sounds intriguing.

I was looking at them earlier. Wouldn't it be bad for your diabetes though?

Apart from Wagon Wheels I have not actually heard of the UK ones

If I had to choose one I'd probably go with the French, or the Russian.

I heard about those a while ago and was seriously tempted, but it seemed a bit too expensive.

Can't say I recognise all the Dutch ones.

I kind of suspect the choices are based on what's cheap, and easy to pack and ship, rather than what's actually popular or well-known. That said, I'd like to see them produce a Finnish selection ... and see how many customers they lose

Yum. And now that I'm not pregnant anymore I am allowed to eat them again!

What weren't you allowed to eat? Sweets in general? Salted licorice in particular?

Probably both sweets and salt. One encourages gestational diabetes, the other high blood pressure. I assume neither are appreciated in the course of gestating a new hoomin.

If I couldn't eat that stuff while pregnant, I'd eat so much after that I'd look pregnant again due to my swollen stomach!

I'd miss soft cheeses ..

You would just have to have faith that cheeses would return in glory.

I meant the salted licorice. I ate way too many sweets during the pregnancy. There's a reason I have to lose 25 Kg. .. Though I've already lost 11,5 Kg so far. And I still retain too much moisture. It gives me swollen ankles and hands.

Marit, I lost the weight surprisingly quickly, probably due to nursing and the initial stress. Before Christmas, I was back in my old jeans - probably even earlier, but for ages I didn't want to try them on because I feared they wouldn't fit. So I'm sure you will lose the weight quickly as well.
But salted licorice was nothing I would have missed during pregnancy. I think I have tried it once or twice and didn't like it.

Jalapenos poppers!
Headed this way! Tomorrow!
During our recent High Risk Behavior interlude, a contender brought jalapeno poppers...peppers halved, filled with cheese stuffing, wrapped in bacon and then grilled over an open flame.
Yum!
Also, we're redoing the rhubarb pie that another contender brought, as well!
Manna from hebbin.

Well....I suspect that those shall be the last jalapeno poppers I consume.
Man, today I've been so 'off' with untoward internal discomfort. So much so that I've half seriously considered taking myself to the emergency clinic...possible heart attack.
But, as the day progresses, it seems obvious to me now that the discomfort is descending in my torso and can thus be roughly timed with the ingested poppers.
My body says, "No."
"None of those any more. Ever."
They sure were good going down....

That's unfortunate.
Almost a disability.
I wonder if there's something peppers can be combined with that would make the gastrointestinal tract complain less.

Note here that I already take a daily prescription for GERD. The poppers just overwhelmed that.
Well, I decided to fart, falter, and fall back. I bought myself a jar of imported golden Greek peperoncini.
They're not jalapenos, but then, that's rather the point. Zip without burning a hole in my esophagus.
My father introduced me to peperoncini and I've enjoyed them ever since. Usually, I consume them directly out of the bottle. They make a great side garnish for a hoagie and an excellent shredded addition to the same.

It is official....apple pie season is upon us!
I noted that August had rolled around and I remembered that my favorite pie apple, the Gravenstein, is an early bearing fruit. So, I texted the grower source I'd identified at the end of last year's season and asked about them. Word came back that I was in luck, as the coming weekend, this weekend, they would be making Gravensteins available through their farmer's markets outlets here in the big shitty (they are 70 some miles east, on the east side of Mt. Hood, near Hood River). I arose early and made the pilgrimage to the nearest neighborhood farmer's market and acquired a measure of Gravensteins. Of course, I needed to make an emergency trip to a regular grocery store to obtain some shortening, but otherwise I was ready to produce.
There are two superbly crafted apple pies baking in the oven right now.
YUM!

The pies disappeared tout suite.
While at the market obtaining apples, I also picked up four huge Maryhill peaches. I just finished off the third with vanilla ice cream.
Yum!

So...I returned yesterday to the Saturday farmer's market and got enough additional apples to make two pies.
Four more peaches, too.

I've never tried peach pie - do you put them in with the apples? Or just eat alone with ice-cream?
I don't see why peach pie would not work, actually.

Peach pie is doable. I've had it. But with me, I just slice one up and add a scoop of vanilla ice cream. It's a lot less arduous.
