I've been watching this quite a lot lately at my parents' as they have most of the stuff on dvd. I'd never really seen it before but am finding it quite funny. Any fans? Do Catholics enjoy it or consider it blashphemous?

It first was on when I was in Bournemouth, but I did not appreciate it. It looked cheaply made and silly and I never looked at it properly. The silliness is part of its charm and I think it has been done with a fair level of respect as most of it is about how silly the characters are, rather than attacking the religion. A Song for Europe certainly is nothing to do with religion and brought us the classic My Lovely Horse!

My sister essentially lives on Craggy Island, and she loves it. Apparently, they have a Tedfest there every February, so I don't think they are too offended.

I couldn't. Weather can keep you stranded there for weeks. And and NO TREES!

Depends on if you want to be reachable and your opinions of trees, surely?

Too windy. That's another thing with windswept islands, they are windy. And wet. And disturbingly often cold.

It's already cold and windy up at Moose's place.

I've always loved Father Ted, I think it's definitely in the top 3 comedies ever. Have you seen the episode with Pat Mustard? Or Kicking Bishop Brennan up the Arse? Genius.

I am a Catholic and find Father Ted hilarious, not only for the slapstick comedy, but also how they subtly deal with the sticky spots in the religion e.g. the celibacy of priests in the episode "And God created women". I don't think it's blasphemous at all, but very well acted (Dougal being my favourite character)and a good laugh. I rather hoped they would make more episodes, but was sad to hear that the actor who played Father Ted has now passed away, and it wouldn't be the same without him

Yes, Dermot Morgan did a fantastic job of it. He died almost on the same day as the last series was to be aired on the TV. Apparently they actually had no plans to make any more episodes anyway, but it was still very sad. It added a poignancy to the last sequence where they showed various clips from the previous episodes.
