I have a horrible, horrible feeling that we're going to wake up tomorrow finding ourselves under another, stronger Tory government with a bigger majority. This makes me very unhappy.

It all comes down to style. Johnson was a bullish, even brash politician who enthused the nation that he could get things done. Corbyn came over as the weakest leader in history who dithered from head to foot. Corbyn was chosen predominantly by union leaders because of his policies but the general public voted on style not policies. Never mind the fact that Johnson could not be trusted and threatened to sell the NHS, people think he's a leader.

It beggars belief that areas that have been devastated by Conservative policies have voted Conservative, mainly because of Brexit.
I originally come from Northampton. Northampton made the national news last year for becoming bankrupt under a Tory led council. Amongst other things, children’s, the elderly, and disabled services have all been slashed.
Northampton just voted Tory again. 😐

The forum ate my reply. I blame bozo for that.
As much as I want to blame the result, and the results of the past few years, on vested interests conning people into voting against their best interests, aided by the first-past-the-post electoral system, I fear it's simpler than that.
The Conservative win is democratic and representative. The Conservative Party is the Nasty Party, and Britain has been shown to be the nasty country. ... Except not all of Britain - this significantly increases the chance of Scottish independence.

The positive thing about this result is now Bozo actually has to Get Brexit Done, with no one else to blame. And that's not about leaving on the 31st Jan, it's about negotiating a deal. It will be very difficult and people will suffer. Probably not enough to endanger the conservatives, because nationalism is still winning, but they won't be able to shift the blame.

You're right and if the Conservatives fail and are subsequently replaced with a more moderate Labour five years from now, it will be a small crumb of comfort.

A very small crumb.
The same goes here if, by some perverse miracle, the bad precedent is re-elected.
So...You folks know all about health insurance deductibles and co-pays? You'd better learn in a fucking hurry...

I hoped that the British people would vote No to Brexit. They voted Yes. I hoped that the American people would vote for Hillary Clinton. They voted for Trump. I hoped that the British people would vote for Corbyn as the least evil but I knew they would vote for Johnson.
People don't trust Johnson but they like him. They neither like nor trust Corbyn.
I blame the British electoral system which is not proportional. It is bad for small parties like the Libraldemocrats.

And yes, I would much rather the system was changed to be proportional. Where I live, the only choices are Labour or Tories. In some places, there is no choice at all.

My point is, if you have a problem with what Spaceflower said - and I can't see why you would - then okay, say what the problem is. But just making a personal remark is pointless.

Is that Peter Noone of Herman's hermits fame? I think what you meant is 'no one', which is always two separate words. If you need a single word instead you can use the equivalent 'nobody'. ( I thought the thread would benefit from the application of a little grammar nazi relish ).

Yes yes I realised that after I'd posted. Given that I have been monumentally ill for a week, it's amazing that I managed to post at all.

It's strange that the body family: anybody, everybody, nobody, and somebody, has one extra member than the one family does. Anyone, everyone, and someone, are happy to dine together, but no one was thrown out of the family for being awkward and refusing to conform.
