I'm cobbling together some healthy snacks for our girl to bring to kindergarten tomorrow as a birthday treat. I'm making butterflies and ladybugs out of rice wafers, syrup and maize fingers. It made me realise I'm really not that creative. How about you?

I remember a pancake-birthday cake you made me once. That was pretty creative! As for me, nope --not very creative at all.

I'm better at making things than coming up with things, if that makes sense. Once I know what I want to do, I'm pretty good at most types of crafts or can figure it out, especially if I can use the internet for help. But I don't have a lot of original ideas about what to do.

I feel pretty much the same way, except that I'm not very good at any type of craft. There have been a handful of occasions, however, when I was inspired to achieve a creative solution to a problem. For example, drilling a small diameter hole through a piece of lead when the drill bit was too small to travel all the way through - I even had a Eureka moment . But as for creating a product of technical or artistic merit... a resounding nil.

I okay in that department. I’m not Martha steward or Rachel Ray but I’m sufficient enough to throw and awesome Baby Shower.

Glad to hear I'm not the only creatively handicapped person here. *has a nice fuzzy feeling now*

I'm not quite sure what qualifies as 'creative'.
I don't consider myself particularly 'creative', but I compare myself to professional artists, both graphic and musical, that I know and I am quite sure I'm not working at that level. And yet, I've had others point out things that I've done, primarily with calligraphy, that they thought me significantly talented and 'creative'. So, I'm no so sure....

I can write tolerably well but I am absolutely terrible at anything else that requires creativity .. clumsy as hell.

I always say I'm very good at letting others be creative. Somehow I manage to get the creative juices going for others really well.
WG, I would not compare creativity with professional art or other creative outlets. In fact, I'm positive that in some cases professional art is less creative than a random person just having an inspiration and going with it.

I think we all have some type of creativity in us at one point or another.

I think we all have some type of creativity in us at one point or another. So, then...You can tell us what 'creativity' is, and what you mean by 'at one point or another'?

I always say I'm very good at letting others be creative. Somehow I manage to get the creative juices going for others really well. I've been told, for every creative person, there are ten who are good at putting creativity into action. From an MI6 representative at the time of the Berlin wall.

That sounds deep, tangent. I wonder what kind of examples he was thinking of.

That sounds deep, tangent. I wonder what kind of examples he was thinking of. I attended a creative design course at work. One morning, a visitor asked us to design a method of receiving and transmitting messages across the Berlin Wall to a safe house in East Germany. After we all came up with elaborate sci-fi methods, he showed us the technique used by MI6. (His task was to produce the equipment and delivery it anonymously, along with a video of its use, to the corner a certain field - I kid you not.) He showed us the video explaining how to use it, which basically involved hand cranking metal tubes through the ground. Apparently MI6 had difficulty making it work but they did manage it.

Not what I expected, but very interesting! So what did you come up with?

(ahem) using a laser to burn a hole through the ground.

Workable I suppose, but not exactly covert.
