I am in agreement with Juju here. There is no reason to ban motoring to someplace which is less populated to exercise. That is the fripping point, ffs. Distance!
I suspect that parks and whatnot are being closed because folks go there and then violate the distancing guidelines, particularly at collection points like car parks and loos.
Outdoors is better, that is what research seems to be showing. Worst is dry still air indoors. Best is moist, warm air in motion outdoors. Mostest bestest is outdoors, far from other humans.
Here, nobody will harass you if you don't wear a mask, as long as you stay more than the guideline distance away from others. If you will be interacting, like at a store, then masks and gloves are strongly advised and you will get flak if you don't mask. The credo is to be prepared with a mask, should an unexpected circumstance arise whilst you are in the midst of another task. The same with gloves....think about how widespread keypads are in our current lifestyle...keypads that every booger-picker who used the equipment before you touched, probably repeatedly.
And...In your home, you needn't wash your hands raw. Wash them after you potentially soil them touching or dealing with items from outside the home...groceries, mailed items, sneezing in to your hand, or digital booger removal; that kind of thing.

Elis - what are the rules for exercise / dog walking there? I’m asking because I’ve heard from friends in our local town that surrounding country paths here are being blocked off, and here people are not allowed to drive to walk. I'm sure we are - I think guidance was issued (aimed at overzealous police forces!) that people are allowed to drive for exercise. As long as the time spent exercising is greater than the time spent driving, ie so it's not just an excuse. Sadly, that just applies to England. The Welsh Assembly Government have issued their own rules which say not. And I've heard police here are really zealous

We - well Col does it mostly - always take poo bags with us. I hate seeing dog poo everywhere and I hate too that people who see it on the pavements here - which is fairly regularly - might think that it's our dog

I am trying to get my mum a priority grocery delivery slot but no joy yet. She's having trouble walking at the moment and has been referred to a neurologist - she collapsed outside Morrisons the otehr day and was taken to hospital

Oh no --poor kiddo! Any idea of what it may be?
I hope the grocery situation gets resolved. This is a bad time to be out of commission...

Could Colin do some shopping for her?
As for dogs, people may drive further out to walk their dogs, but from where we live, in the middle of the city, they might have to drive for 20 to 30 minutes before reaching the countryside. Nobody does that. There are lot sof people in the parks these days, most keeping the distance, though. I try to find less frequented spots with Malcolm, but anywhere near a big road is too dangerous, as well as near some cycling paths. Generally, keeping a distance from other people is quite easy, though.

Col does not have a car and it's a four mile walk to my mum's. His bike is off the road - it's just not realistic and we can't afford taxis.

She's got a slot for Wednesday. I found a colleague of hers who is prepared to shop for her too and I found some restaurants that are doing delivery services during lockdown

Went to Tesco tonight. A large proportion of other shoppers were completely ignoring the one-way arrows stuck on the floors of all the aisles. At times, it seemed that about half of the shoppers were going the wrong way - which is what you'd expect by chance if EVERYONE was ignoring the one-way system.
Also people were pushing past and reaching over other shoppers and not keeping the recommended two metres apart. Covidiots.

Really, now?
I was taught and rather remained under the impression that Brits queued naturally. Like it came as some kind of national trait; to submit to boring lines without resistance.
What you are describing, cept, sounds like typical American shopper behavior. FREEDOM!...y'know?

Here I think shoppers are doing quite well in supermarkets. People wait at the beginning of the aisle for others to pass through etc. The only ones I see messing up sometimes are the young workers filling the shelves. Stocking the shelves?

People seem quite responsible in shops here, too. But maybe it varies by shop. I've been in a large Sainburys which had lots of 2m tape markings but no one way system (wide aisles) and a very cramped Londis and another local shop whose name has changed and I can't remember the new name or the old name - both also had tape markings but not everywhere.
