Am just eating a feta cheese salad and a cheeseburger from a take out. Fortunately can afford it - just - right now but still, it's an expensive way to eat.

I ration myself to take out once a week because a) it's so expensive, b) I hate giving $ to the delivery service (like Uber Eats) and c) there's usually waaaay too much food for one person.

Well when I say living on, I do mean generally once a week though this week might have done twice. But yeah, it will last more than one day

We rarely get take-out. The last time was on my birthday since we had come home late after having been to the zoo, but Frank picked it up. There is a Chinese place and a Turkish place and both do very good meals, but we only get take-out a few times per year.

I get take out maybe once a week or once every 2 weeks. It's usually less than stellar --often cold by the time it gets here, but I'm not a good cook so my own cooking is also less than stellar. No wonder I'm losing weight.

Sounds good My favourite Indian takeaway has spammed me with a 20% off offer and free delivery ... I may take them up on that!

Getting an Indian takeaway, I thought that was obvious

I want Greek souvlaki. Might do that this week.

I have Facebook friends who recommend ordering a whole cow and having it delivered to the local butcher, who will then prepare it for your freezer. *blinks*

Souvlaki: pork skewers in pita bread dressed with tzatziki, onions and tomatoes. Yum.

Gyros....Donars....all the same thing with different names.

No .. a donor or however you spell it is a specific type of meat and cooked in a specific way

I disagree. Souvlaki is one of any number of Greek foods including giros, and shawarma. Doner kebab is the Turkish name for giros (gyros). The 'special meat' is merely processed meat stacked around a vertical spit that continually spins the meat in front of a vertical heat source and the cooked meat is shaved off the outer portion of this conical stack of meat to make giros/doner/souvlaki/shawama/etc. Now....Farther Kye showed us pork souvlaki; I'm guessing that such would be rare in Turkey, considering that it is nominally an Islamic nation, and so doner kebab is not likely to be pork. I'm used to gyros being made with a spiced beef/lamb/goat meat stuffed in to a pita blanket with veggies and tzatziki

My understanding is this: souvlaki and kebab refer mostly but not exclusively to meat cooked on a skewer, and more generally to dishes or meals with skewered or other meat.
Doner (Turkish), gyros (Greek) and shawarma (Arabic) (for some reason usually spelled schwarma in South Africa all refer very specifically to meat cooked in horizontal layers on a rotating vertical spit or rotisserie.

Sounds good My favourite Indian takeaway has spammed me with a 20% off offer and free delivery ... I may take them up on that! I didn't order on Sunday because I wasn't up to eating much, but I got some this evening. And entirely as normal I got enough for Little Miss JoeP to have some as well as me, even though she doesn't live here any more, and there to be enough for leftovers. So now I basically have Indian for the next four meals. Butter chicken - good but not totally impressed; bhangra chicken (house specialty) - very impressed; and various sides. Aloo gobi was v tasty.

Weirdly we've only had one takeout since March, on our anniversary. It was an Indian and there's still a portion in the freezer. One of the few things I've enjoyed about lockdown is the chance to cook more often. I actually really love cooking and I've been a lot more experimental recently - today for example I made shakshuka and sourdough flatbread for lunch, which didn't take long. Gonna try a sourdough loaf tomorrow! I'll really miss this when we have to go back to work

I wish I lived with you! I've been doing a lot more cooking, but since my cooking doesn't really taste good, I haven't been tempted to overeat. I've actually lost weight since March.

I’ve lost weight too, and so has Adrian . I think we were too stressed to eat for most of March, but since then I’ve been cooking really healthily and not buying crap, and we’ve also walked a lot more, so actually our lifestyle is way healthier than before.
If I didn’t miss my colleagues I’d be happy to carry on at home. Actually we will anyway for a while, because universities will stay online next term.

Julie-have you seen the meme doing the rounds on facebook about all the abandoned sourdough starters made during lockdown banding together and consuming the world?

Julie-have you seen the meme doing the rounds on facebook about all the abandoned sourdough starters made during lockdown banding together and consuming the world? Hahaha, no - post it if you can! I can believe it though. Sourdough is a huge faff (though I was so excited when it worked) - I can't imagine many people bothering when they have to go back to work.
