Mosquitoes. My legs look absolutely awful and so do Frank's. Have murdered quite a few of them - and watched a tiny spider in the shower catch and eat one, meaning that spider is allowed to stay now.

Should add that our little guy has been lucky so far. He did get a few bites, but much less than Frank and I, and they don't seem to bother him.

Finland is very prone to mosquitoes because it has so many lakes. I went there in June 1965 and every day we had to smother ourselves with insect repellent.

It's not always nice to be loved

They tend to leave me alone for some reason - not sure I've ever been bitten even when I've walked through clouds of them. Perhaps my blood is not to their taste.

They loved us all. At first it was mostly me and my legs looked absolutely scary after two days, but then it got better and they turned on Frank and then on our little guy.

I shudder to think how many I'd have if I didn't put bug spray on. I get enough when I do...

I'm usually not the one most loved by mosquitoes and neither is Frank. We were staying at a rented apartment (with my mother staying in another one) on a little farm with lots of chickens, a pony, a tortoise and two cats, close to the Baltic Sea (about half a mile, if not less). It was beautiful and my parents have been friends with the family who owns it for over 20 years, so there are some childhood memories attached to the place because we used to go there on holiday several times. Really the only thing that was not nice was the mosquitoes. Franks hand is still swollen from one of the bites and some bites bruised (were assuming those were blackflies).

I've read that mosquitoes prefer people who are warm and sweaty, drunk or pregnant, tall or fat. They also prefer dark clothes to white ones.
People with blood group 0 are especially popular with the mosquitoes.
Clegs and gnats are a nuisance too. But I am most afraid of wasps.

We're all not fat and we're defi itely not drunk during that time and only my husband is tall. I assume that, where we were, they were not picky since there were so many of them.

Usually mosquitoes aim for me straight away, but when I'm pregnant they go visit my husband instead. <3
How was the holiday otherwise, Kaylee? I know you were a bit anxious about it.
