I bought a drink in the Navigation in Marple at 12:30pm today but when I went to the bar to buy a second drink, the landlord told me they couldn't serve me because they "had Covid" and it had just been closed down. I visit the pub quite a lot and so I'm expecting to have to go into isolation for two weeks *sigh*

Well, that lasted all of one hour. At 1pm, the Navigation was told to close down and at 2pm they were told they could reopen. In the meantime, I posted a note on the Marple forum and it exploded with 45 comments* and reactions, including several people telling me I must self-isolate and take a test if I have symptoms (I know what to do). Who drinks at lunchtime anyway? And why did I see you loitering outside the Navi (you didn't)? So, no more self-isolation.
I was bemused by some reactions and disturbed by others but in the end it didn't bother me.
* Half an hour later, another 45 comments, some of them quite rude - what on earth are you doing drinking so early on a Monday? Actually, I'm retired and I prefer lunchtimes.

I hope you have, or can order, enough beer at home to survive 2 weeks of self-isolation. I meant just in case.

I am utterly bewildered as to where we are at the moment. As I don't go out it's not that big a deal to me but it is to other people

I think this map of hotspots from the BBC illustrates the problem in the UK. Many areas in the south (light blue) have fewer than 10 new cases of Covid-19 every day whilst many areas in the north (orange) have more than 50 new cases per 100k population. Because of this, it is difficult to treat North Devon (2 cases per day) in the same way as Bolton (196 cases per day). By comparison, Melbourne has only 0.28 cases per day and yet they have far tougher restrictions than anywhere in the UK. The UK needs to get its act together.

What’s really frustrating is that Carmarthenshire is seeing a sharp rise, but that is in the towns.
We live in very rural north Carmarthenshire, on the borders of Ceredigion, which has some of the lowest numbers in Britain. I’ll therefore be really annoyed if we’re tarred with the same brush and the whole county has to lockdown 🙁

What a confusing experience that must have been. In Germany all the states make their own rules and regulations which is pretty confusing as well.

They're talking about a second wave starting here. Meanwhile some c-rated celebs have started a we won't participate anymore-movement to counteract the government's we are all in this together-movement. Losers with a lot of young followers unfortunately.

It's not just young people who protest against the rules. A few weeks ago, when Berlin saw a right-wing protest, the arch conservative Telegraph included a commentary asking of the people of Britain, "where is your metal?" In other words, "why are there no protests against lockdown in the UK?" Moreover, it seems like some right-wing politicians like to kick against the rules. I suspect it offends their sense of individualism.

Mike, Ring O Bells landlord, is explaining to everyone who comes in: from Friday, you must wear a mask on entering the pub and you must wear a mask when going to the toilet. But you may take off your mask when sitting down at your table. He's even trained his staff to ask customers to take their drinks from the server's tray.
He's just opened the windows in the side room because three more people have entered. Admirable consciencousness but no one else does that.

I daresay that he does not want to be locked down again but I fear it is going to happen.

New coronavirus rules come into force today. Mike, the landlord of the Ring O Bells, wasn't letting anyone in without a mask. You are now supposed to wear a mask at all times unless sitting down at a table.

Munich required masks in public places now, I have heard. But things do change quickly these days.

As you can't eat or drink wearing a mask, what is he serving?

You can remove the mask once you've arrived at your seat.

I haven’t really ate out. But I prefer ordering take out these days. Been so busy I’ve not kept up with any news at all.
