Perhaps a stupid question but what will be gained from impeaching trump at this point? Will it be retroactive? Will it even happen?
I must admit I'm not really up to speed with happenings over the ocean, so I'd appreciate a quick update. I didn't even know people died in the storming. It happened at the start of our new lockdown, so the news was a bit preoccupied with our own idiot rioters etc.

As far as I can tell it's all over - the trial in the senate has concluded with him being acquitted. 57-43 in favour of convicting, but it needed to be 67 (two-thirds).
There was very little hope of him being convicted in the senate, but if he had it would have allowed them to prevent him ever holding public office again. As it is, he's very likely to run again in 2024 and the spineless Republican party is very likely to cave in and support him.
Overall it has confirmed how hypocritical the Republican party is, and Mitch McConnell in particular - he says you can't impeach a president once he's left office, but that this attempt to overthrow the US government was not important enough to convene the senate before 19 Jan while he was in fact in office.

I think the Republican politicians are hedging their bets, waiting to see what the Great American Unwashed will do in the next 4 years. If they still clamour for Trump, the politicians don't want to kill the goose that lays the golden eggs.

You're probably right unfortunately, Kye . There is the fact that Trump is 74 and in poor health though - he might not be ALIVE in four years, let alone in a state to run (not that he was really in a state to run this time). I would never wish death on anyone but a natural death would certainly make things easier.

According to something I read yesterday, Steve Bannon believes Trump has early stage dementia. I don’t think that would come as a surprise to anyone, especially since his father had it, but will he be too far gone in 2024? Would anyone notice? Would anyone even care?
Apparently old Fred Trump believed he was still running the business right up until the end. They kept up the pretence of giving him papers to sign etc, to make him believe he was still in charge. Trump and his supporters want a family dynasty, so I can imagine that scenario in my worst nightmares.

If he were elected in 2024, what would he be like at the end of his term, in 2029?

According to something I read yesterday, Steve Bannon believes Trump has early stage dementia. Steve Bannon is crazy. No one in their right mind believes it's early stage.

I can imagine that in the last year or so the Trump administration ran on much the same lines - just let him think he's in charge and ignore him as much as possible.

Thanks all!
Speaking of peaches, does anyone know how he's doing?

He has settled in New Zealand as far away from Donald Trump as he can get. He regularly posts on Facebook.

If he's happy, it's fine. He's not been happy enough in the past.

Settling far away from Donald Trump seems like a good idea to me.

Who is peaches? The only one I can think of is a Scottish lady. And may not have been at EF.

I have a very vague recollection of the name Bryant. But ... again ... may not be the same one.

The last I heard, Bryant had made it to his desired destination and obtained a teaching position somewhere in NZ.
