We have a local business, located at a side window of a larger restaurant business which faces the major thoroughfare which forms my neighborhood's northern boundary. I have not been there since before the pandemic. Tomorrow it is slated for a return. Get a load of this: wafflewindow.com/menu/

It looks like waffles have replaced bread. Savoury waffles are fairly rare in the UK but they are starting to be introduced..

The offering was superb. Both Swimmer and I ordered their "Whole Farm" waffle, with mushrooms, tomatoes, spinach, chevre, and amazing thick-sliced crunchy-fried streaky bacon.
Yum.
Swimmer ordered a second savory waffle, the "3 Bs"...Bacon, Brie and Basil waffle, which comes with warm peach jam. Both of her orders were on gluten-friendly waffles.
I went with the deep, dark "Strawberries at Midnight" waffle, complete with extra strawberries, sweet whipped cream and lots of drizzled bittersweet dark chocolate syrup.
Yow.
Forgive me, Farther, for I have sinned.

I have to say, the menu sounded luxurious.

I was amazed at what they were offering as take out at the window. The menu makes not just Waffle Window products, but the concoctions of both Bread & Ink Cafe and of Portland Biscuit Company are also offered in the same menu. I'm quite set upon sampling their biscuits and gravy. Much sampling in my future. All in good time.

I have to say, the menu sounded luxurious. I would rate it as 'awkward pretense' and 'distinctly trendy'. 'Luxurious' is not a phrase I'd use, but, hey 'interpretation'. It is mostly 'comfort food'; burgers, salads, mac & cheese, waffles and fried chicken. Back in the day, before the alt.right decline, Bread & Ink was something of an intellectual gathering place for the east side of the city. It is on Hawthorne Boulevard, which is a commercial hub that sews together six to eight different neighborhoods and catered to its concentration of diversity activists. At one time, Hawthorne was where one went to see what innovative ways locals had found to embed metal in their faces. I haven't spent much time on or around this part of the neighborhood since before the pandemic, so I'm not sure how hard it has hit the commercial ventures along the boulevard. The Waffle Window et al seemed to be doing a landoffice business in food delivery; I managed to move up two spaces in the parking rank while Swimmer ran in to fetch the food. Delivery contractors were retrieving orders for delivery at a healthy clip.

At one time, Hawthorne was where one went to see what innovative ways locals had found to embed metal in their faces. That made me laugh out loud in the waiting room. Oops.

Sounds fantastic to me. I sometimes have savoury waffles The savory waffle I had was mostly mushroom and onion, with a spray of singed spinach, several halved cherry tomatoes, pickled pepper strips and, most important, in my view, the dollop of herb-infused chevre cheese. The planks of fried thick strip bacon were like afterthoughts tossed atop the whole lot. It was built upon two smallish Belgian waffles (Swimmer's were 'gluten-sensitive'). It was a joy and more filling than I expected. I initially thought of saving my Strawberries @ Midnight dish, but ended up scarfing it down just moments later, as it was a mere single waffle.
