I have annoyingly intense work during the day, and Finnish lessons some evenings, and things to organise in terms of residence registration, id cards, bank accounts, and stuff like that ... and I should probably pack as well.

I'm here too, but we spent a week with my parents and two of my sisters and their partners and, in one case, children. It was nice, but pretty busy.

Hei Kye!
Get up about 8 (Finnish time), say hello to the cat, don't say hello to Miisa or the dogs because she's taken them out for a walk, have some breakfast. Then we'll see.
The kids are coming to dinner this evening - we are making lasagne (or maybe just Miisa is, not sure how much I will be able to assist much given the size of the kitchen).

For another week. This is a trip I'd already booked before getting the residence permit. I've extended it a bit ... but still lots to arrange!

Yes!
It will involve getting a new house because Miisa's flat is not big enough for two working adults. Or even two relaxing adults, really. But step by step.
My daughter's moving back into our house in London and will pay me rent to cover the mortgage.

Well, to be honest, if things go awry with Putin, we're all fucked, whether in Finland, looking at Russian nose-hairs, or here on the left coast of another continent entirely.
I think it's great that you're moving to the forests of Finland. I hear positive things about Finland and the Finns. Can't you just push an ice-fishing shed up against the present domicile and double the living space? Or, is it the lot the structure is on?
Living in a 'tiny house' is all the rage in these parts. I have my doubts. Swimmer is leasing out her farm and thinking about living in an Airstream Bambi trailer on her son's property in Whidby Island, Washington (thereby allowing her to travel abroad with greater freedom). She's paring down after living with a four-bedroom ranch with outbuildings (including a barn and a kennel) on five acres of farmland including a stream. I do not envy that.

Not much going on here. Been very busy with school. Aside from English, I'm a temporary art teacher, standing in for a sick teacher, without being qualified for it. Will be glad when that ends. The head of department recently introduced me to some students as "a new art teacher". Hoping I will really just be "the temporary art teacher".

I was on holiday on the Great Orme (Llandudno, North Wales) last week, flying model gliders from the sea cliffs there. Back home now.

Yes. No significant damage to any of my gliders: I noticed a hairline crack in the fuselage of one of them, but that may have been there previously. I did, however, scrape the plastic bumper (fender) of my car by reversing it against a wall: I was trying to get out of the way of a Volvo that I thought was about to reverse into me. Here's a photo I took at the Orme of my best racing glider, with transmitter for scale. Mine is the yellow one; it's about 3.1 metres wingspan. The purple one sitting next to it belongs to my friend Mike. These sorts of glider can easily average 100 mph, and can exceed 200 mph in a dive. They're made of composite materials: usually a carbon fibre and glass fibre mixture, so are very strong, but rather crunchy if you hit rocks. The flaps and ailerons on the wing are normally in a more streamlined position, flush with the main part of the wing. They're in that strange position in the photo because so-called 'crow brakes' are deployed. This is a setting used to increase drag for a steeper descent when landing.
