2 explosions reported near the finish of the Boston Marathon. You could see in the footage, one gentleman runner suddenly get all wobbly and fall to the ground. There was a report of a 3rd blast at JFK library, but that was unrelated. Here is what I know right now: they are reporting 2 dead, one of which was an 8 year-old child, and over 110 injured (that number keeps rising), 8 critically so. No one is as yet in custody AFAIK, and no person or group has claimed responsibility, though they did come on about an hour ago and said it is confirmed to be a terrorist activity. Two unexploded bombs have been found and are being analyzed.
My own raw thoughts: despite the fact that the crawl on CNN is calling this "well-planned", it certainly could have been much worse. The paper said there were some 27,000 people running today. I'd think if it were "well-planned" they'd have hit the starting line for maximum carnage. They were also saying on CNN that one "good side" to the location is that there were lots of medical personnel on hand (as there always is at large races), and that Boston is home to some top hospitals. The President came on and said those responsible will "feel the full weight of justice" and that we don't know yet whether this was domestic or international.
I've only looked at CNN.com, but I'm sure any of the other major media sites will be sure to have coverage. (ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC, FOX, etc.)

Bad things Also was very annoyed by how people immediately assumed the Arabic-looking witness questioned was actually a suspect. Understandable I suppose, but annoying nonetheless.

Mari I was annoyed too at the assumption that the Arabic bloke - who was apparently seriously injured - was automatically guilty. It can't be much fun to live with that kind of suspicion over you all the time. There are plenty of home grown terrorists .. think Tim McVeigh, for instance, or the Norwegian bloke. It does not HAVE to be Muslims and assuming that it is isn't helping relations at all.

I agree. Afte 9/11, my aunt who was married to a man from Iran (the got divorced a few years ago) told us that he was often checked by the police and that suddenly, he seemed "suspicious" to many people just because of the way he looks.

I have been told I look a bit Iranian - though I can't see it myself - so I'd better not go to the States.

Might be your beard? Though I wouldn't say it's typically Iranian. But then, I've been asked if I'm half Chinese, so... *shrugs*

Not sure if it's too early to start speculating, but my instinct is this is a home-grown American terrorist thing, like Oklahoma etc.

Our one major bombing was by a teeneager out of the blue, who built a bomb from Internet instructions. No terrorist group, no conspiracy, just a sad, deluded child.

My niece is in MIT. Their dorms are all locked up but she is fine. Hope this whole thing ends without further bloodshed.

At the moment one cop dead and another seriously injured from what I hear today. I'm glad your niece is fine CB. And one suspect dead and other other on the loose.

Thank you RB. As long as the 2nd suspect is at large, I don't feel relieved. Boston is apparently in lockdown

hmmm... someone shared this on facebook.. Sulahaddin Barhoum, 17, moved to the US with his family four years agoHe said: 'I worry that someone, a mad person, might come after me and my family' The teenager is a keen runner who one day hopes to run in the Olympics
A teenage boy wrongly identified as a Boston bombing suspect fought back tears as he told how he begged police to help him clear his name.
Sulahaddin Barhoum clutched a handful of his own running medals on a red, white and blue ribbon as he told MailOnline of his terror at being falsely accused.
The 17-year-old Moroccan, who moved to the U.S. with his family four years ago, said: 'Late last night friends started calling and emailing me – they said my photo was all over the internet, that I was a suspect in the Boston bombing.
