Which is why I always use the teacher's toilet. At least that has a toiletbrush and anti-smell stuff.

Paper towel. I find the hand driers never dry properly. They defeat their own aim. Technology for you. They've got some seriously kick ass ones in my local Tesco. I was amazed the first time I used them .. they pretty much took the flesh off my hands

I like those turbo dryers. It doesn't take long, and it gets your hands dry without making them cold.

Airblade.
Cool name, at the very least.

I hate those airblade things. They always take me massively longer to dry my hands and I have burnt myself on them twice, too!

They have those in one of the shopping centres in town here. They feel and sound like they are going to start moving up the wall, given half a chance!

And they make a terrible noise especially in a small tiled room.

True. But they dry your hands fast.

Not me, I cover my ears with my hands to drown out the noise. It's not very effective.

Wet ears - an unforeseen side-effect ...

It's even worse when you put your head under the dryer to dry them off!

Not possible. Too noisy.

Nah! It'd damage your hearing pretty quickly and then it wouldn't matter how loud it was!

Nah! It'd damage your hearing pretty quickly and then it wouldn't matter how loud it was! Loud noises can make you completely deaf but only if you are exposed to them over several years (an exception to this is a loud clap of thunder or a gunshot that permanently damages your eardrum). A brief loud noise might damage the cilia in your inner ear but your brain compensates by amplifying the sounds you hear so that you appear to hear normally. Prolonged exposure to loud noises gives you tinnitus and the inability to discern conversations because the signal to noise ratio is too high.

I have never had prolonged exposure to loud noise and I have had tinnitus for about 30 years already. Life is not very fair at times.

Tinnitus can be caused by lots of things, for example inherent deafness, illness, drugs and brief exposure to DIY tools. It's a neglected subject and one that is very often ignored because non-sufferers can't appreciate it.

I've used a hand drier to dry my skirt. It was very awkard, I had to sit on the edge of the sink to get my skirt close enough.

Paper towels. I don't think any hand dryer has ever actually managed to dry my hands - I usually give up after a few seconds and wipe them down my clothes as well. Eco wise, I'd like to think that all paper towels were recycled, but then hand dryers use electricity, so which is worse? Yeah, I agree with this. I feel like at least the paper is biodegradable. That said, there are these hand dryers, which sound and feel like jet engines, which have become more popular around here lately: But then, when I went to the movies the other day, they were doing some major renovations (big, reclining chairs in the theaters) including these dryers: ... which are supposed to be very hygienic, and fast.

Those airblades do get my hands dry, except for the fingertops because it turns off by the time we get to those.

In ours, blood had sometimes been smeared on the walls of the cubicles.
