It is Robert Beltrane's birthday today. ( Chakotay). I am actually watching Voyager at the moment. Also drinking part of my birthday present: Laphroaig Islay single malt Scotch (10 years old) Very nice.

Star Trek nerdy is knowing where the toilets are on the Enterprise! Being nerdy is learning to speak Klingon. There was a poster on another forum who was bringing up his little one to speak Klingon, IIRC.

Linguists regalarly use it as a teaching exercise because it is a neutral language that is logically constructed - illustrates all kind of important things, apparently.

It was supposed to be a few seconds in Goldfinger, until someone thought of making it stop on 007. USS Enterprise got Kirked to oblivion!

It sounds better than "A ring-shaped beam that confines things".
Or... "a glowy, wibbley-wobbly thing!".

Just what is an annular confinement beam anyway? Think of it as a tube of energy down which one may pass bleepin' quickly ... ... THIS is informative.

Think of it as a tube of energy down which one may pass bleepin' quickly ... ... THIS is informative. The information on that link all looks like it's based on a TV series! Once it becomes a beam, it would have to be tubular, but I suppose that doesn't sound so good!

As in ... 'apply the tuby thing!' 'Aye, Capn'
I've always wondered why the Star Fleet crewpersons talk in Pirate ...
*thinks: do we have a smiley with an eye-patch*
