It has begun...The recon for new household feline(s). Today we will make our first efforts as finding and selecting new overlords for our domecile.
We're headed off to a nearby neighborhood pet supply center, where county rescue animals are on display for potential adoption. We're off to look at Griffin, a ginger male, and Piper, his grey sister, and others.

Griffin and Piper sound like confusing names for EF cats ... too much like "Pippin".
You'll have to choose other names.

Who just had to trial the computer.
As I fully expected, the "just looking" quickly turned into "our new overlord." Griffin and Piper were already claimed. So, we ambled down to the next pet shop with an 'adoption center' run by the local Humane Society. There, at our second bn9st66680000000000000000066666666000000p,

uh, stop...Swimmer spiedgh a smallish specimen lurking under one of the chairs in the cat room who, she says, had that 'twinkle' in his eyes. As expected, we came home with this specimen in tow... 44444444444444444763wyt?; Now, he seEms insist =2222222222223 upon learning to key my computer.
It's too early for pix, as he hasn't remained stationary long enough to get an unblurred photo. He also hasn't stopped purring since he was released from the cardboard travel carrier in his new domain. The little kitty who seem so retiring at the cat room is hardly that at all here at his new domicile....he already marches around like he knows he owns it all outright. Which, considering, he probably does.
He is a barely out of weaning kitten (I'm guessing about four months), domestic shorthair, mostly white fur with ginger tabby cap and tail and multiple ginger tabby spots along his flanks. We have not definitively decided upon a name, but the Humanes had tenatively named him "Picard"...we'll see.

You need to teach that cat spelling. Though the hare tracks clearly show part of the intended message.

I like his posting style. I think he should be called Shakespeare.
Or possibly James Joyce.

So...we looked at the paperwork that came with him and he is estimated as being 8 to 10 weeks old. he has been tutored and has his first round of vax, as well as having been depested by the authorities whilst institutionalized. He was picked up off the streets and turned in to the OHS, which had done the honors and put him out on the petshop rounds.

Oh, so cute! Will Picard retain his name or will you rename him? And in the first case: will it be Jean-Luc, Picard, or Jean-Luc Picard?

Oh, so cute! Will Picard retain his name or will you rename him? And in the first case: will it be Jean-Luc, Picard, or Jean-Luc Picard? We kept open the options, because it was a name that shelter staff gave him. But it seems as though 'Picard' is going to stay. We're not going to embellish it with other names, but we won't discourage any spontaneous embellishments by others...unson #2 likes the option of referencing him as "Captain". I would note that. like a true overlord, he has readily mastered issuing orders...particularly the "All hands on Picard!" order. I suspect that, "Feed me - make it so," will become a familiar refrain on this ship.

He is working out way better than expected. We intended to get two young adults, rather than a fresh new kitten. 'Cyoot' is what got him out the petstore door....I feared that we would have to go through the whole 'potty-training' thing...BUT NOOOOOO. He knew all about using a litter box and, so far as we know, he has not yet missed the box. Plus, he is distinctly human-oriented; he seems to like to have one or more of the two (or, occasionally, three) of us in sight. He has mastered the obvious lap-claiming skills...particularly those which require a human hand to complete the sleep spot. In short, he is very "lovey".
He is a keeper, for sure.
