In reality, that will just mean increasingly unemployed elderly people that the government doesn't pay a pension to, even though they paid the same contribution as people potentially days older than them. There was a woman being interviewed on the radio that I was listening to who was born a day before the cut-off, who was obviously very annoyed!
There is a decreasing number of jobs and people are less likely to hire people on the verge of retirement. Another case of the government treating people as numbers to be "fixed"!

In 1948, women were thought to be the weaker sex.

We get our bus pass and senior citizen rail passes at 60. For you and me, yes it was 60 but the age is gradually being raised to 65. I am not quite sure what it is at present. This is 'bus passes. I don't know about railcards.

I get super savings for rail travel now that I'm over 60. If only I had somewhere to go!

Here you have to be over 65 for bus passes, retirement is at 67 and by the time I'm nearing that age, I'm sure it will have been cranked up to 71 or something...

Isn't Vancouver always raining? And miserable?

I think they have one or two clear days in a year. It was sure raining the time I was there.

Isn't Vancouver always raining? And miserable? No, it isn't always raining. Like Puddle City, they have dry sunny days in the summer months. Three or four, if they are lucky. I think you must be confusing Vancouver with Juneau. And, Vancouver is most definitely NOT miserable.

I think they have one or two clear days in a year. More'n that. Maybe even three or four. I'm not surprised....but it was not bone-chilling cold, nor stultifyingly hot and muggy. That's what is nice about it...no temperature extremes and unwelcome weather impositions are rare and usually quite transitory. Plus, they have ferries galore around there. Now, the last time I was in Kye's neck of the woods, there was three inches of ice on the railings, some of which had been there for months. The locals actually wrapped their ornamental trees in burlap to help them survive the winter cold. We don't do that around here...

You don't wrap your trees? Odd...

Sounds like Wales, and England - where it ALWAYS rains - except for those astonishing freak periods, sometimes several weeks at a time, most years, when it doesn't, and people say how unusual this is for Britain.
I'm sure if Kye and Genie visited Vancouver the weather would be brilliant!

Indeed, Britain doesn't really seem to have seasons much, all year seems to be spent in the same 15-20 degree span.

Of course it has seasons! The rain is a lot colder in winter!
30-35 degree span at least. -4C on several days over winter, 33C today.

But surely 33 is an anomaly, not ongoing for weeks at a time? 18-20 seems more common summery weather?

It's been 26+ every day for two weeks (except Saturday - 24) and 29+ most days for more than a week.
You certainly can't guarantee that a given week in July or August is going to have good weather, especially not if you book a holiday. You can't plan for the British weather. (not quite as the railways can't plan for leaves falling on the lines!)
But there are periods of good, hot weather at some point most summers. They're not anomalies if they occur most years ... they just feel like it!

It was courtesy of dear Uncle Ben. Provencale.
I haven't been swimming today, although the beaches would probably not be crowded for once. Waiting for someone to help me with my car, as I am rather housebound without it, but they seem busy. Ho hum.

What is the problem with your car? *looks concerned and enquiring*
Are there any bus / train services in your remote part of the far north?
