Pip has been pretty much ignoring me for three or four days now. He won't sleep with me anymore - he's sleeping in the spare room - he won't come when called and he looks totally disinterested when I try to pet him. I am hoping he's just too hot and cross but I dunno. There's no reason I can think of that he would otherwise be behaving this way. Could he be ill?

It could be the heat, especially if he's not used to it. It will be cooler for him to sleep in another room. You might try cooling him down by spraying him with a bit of water or patting it over him. Is he eating and drinking?

Is he eating and drinking normally? Can you pick him up and is he unusually floppy or anything?
Could well be the heat.

he is eating and drinking but seems not as much as usual. I will go and do a floppy test on him.
Oh God I hope he is not ill. Apart from anything else, I have twenty pounds in my purse and that has to last me the rest of the fortnight.

Well I swung him round my head a couple of times and he seems fairly robust. Maybe just too hot. He consented to come back downstairs with me and is having his dinner now

I'd say it's the heat. Cats like it but it makes them lethargic.

Not in a mean way on his face or something. Just on his skin, it will cool him. I used to do it to my cat in the Aussie heat and she liked it. Well for a little while. She told me once she'd had enough.

I suspect that just the sight of the spritz bottle would have him running for cover

Tink and Honey are far less active than usual and both are eating significantly less than normal. They are also taking the best places to sleep. At night, Tink usually has the ledge by the window and Honey takes draught excluder position by the door.
They are currently both out of it on the sofa.

Pip is now asleep on the windowsill with a very disgruntled look on his face.

I swung him round and then sprayed water at him from a bit cannon! There's nothing the RSPCA would object to in all that is there?!

He glared.
Okay I didn't really do either of those things, obviously. I picked him up gently and checked him all over for signs of floppiness and found none (I remember how Gandalf was when he became ill and he was very very floppy, so I figure I know what to look for). He seems more his normal self now.

*cuddles to Pippin*
in a hopeful kind of way, since he didn't show more than a few whiskers while I was there
