A friend of mine is having a wee FB party to celebrate the official release of her first novel on Monday 29th, between 5pm and 11pm. You'll find her under the name Deboray Jay. She will also be giving away a few ebook copies, so you'd be daft not to pop in The novel, The Prince's Man, has had a couple of 5 star reviews already and might appeal to those of you who enjoy fantasy. www.amazon.com/THE-PRINCES-Five-Kingdoms-ebook/dp/B00DWLAAGS

Plugs into Amazon link.
Presumably I'd need to stop boycotting facebook to plug into the party?

I've downloaded it but haven't started reading it yet.
Facebook is good. Why you boycott it JoeP?

I personally find Facebook, Twitter and the like to be far too overrun with trivial nonsense to be able to enjoy using them. I have accounts and access them very rarely, but only when I really benefit from it and, most times, I come away wondering it if was worth it.

We have a sensible amount of trivial stuff but, from the stuff I see on Facebook and Twitter, the ratios there are far, far further over.
Also, there isn't a constant stream here of companies trying to wheedle money out of everyone.

Facebook is good. Why you boycott it JoeP? A bit too much noise at the time of stupid status updates and friends starting "join the march to save the maltreated cats of Hammanskraal" groups all the time, and a lot of annoyance at Facebook's blatant disregard of security in favour of serving who they really care about, advertisers (and themselves). I suppose both things are more controllable now.

I'm not sure the adverts are controllable unless you're thinking of Adblock.

...but all set to Facebook's favour by default! I am amazed how much information is posted by people these days, against security. There was an expert on the radio a while back listing many instances of how all the usual "personal" stuff is now all over the place. Even a lot of those "What is your porn star name" type games were based on scams to get the answers to people's security questions!

I've read the first couple of chapters of the book and I'm impressed. I loved Game of Thrones and this is along similar lines. It's shaping up to be every bit as expansive. I was hooked by the first page and had to make myself put it down.
