943 820 I'm cleaning the house while waiting for the person who can fix my computer to come online. It's been 2 weeks since I did any productive work...

943 815 I think I've just been told off by a 4-year old. Coming back from my daily walk, I saw him sitting on his bike at the edge of the pavement. He said something to me but I couldn't tell what it was. He seemed a bit agitated. Anyway, I walked in the middle of the road to give him 2m clearance and as I walked passed he gesticulated to the other side of the road. I think he was telling me that I should have crossed over to the other pavement

I'm going to be visiting my daughter in 11 days! It's a 4 hour drive and my dog gets car sick. I have to call the vet and see if I can give him any meds for it.
I'll be staying at a motel, so still social distancing.

My retirement plans are not going well.
I shall stand down as Parish Priest this Sunday but go straight into a new post as Interim Minister in the same church 'for the duration' of the public health emergency. AND the retirement treat was going to be a Rhine cruise but the operators have just refunded my credit card as the Dutch Gov.t rules have more or less killed their business for the time being - even if it were legal for my to travel to the Netherlands at the moment to catch the boat in the first place!!

943 808 Sorry to hear the Church won't let you go but perhaps it's because you're too valuable You can always savour your Rhine cruise for another year but in the meantime, you could hire a rowing boat for a weekend on on the River Thames. Marit, I though parents of young toddlers were always too tired to be busy. Kye, could you not get a dog-sitter?

No dog sitter. Liam's Other Mommy (my daughter Natasha) is my go-to for doggy sitting, but she's been working 10 hour shifts and the dog can't be alone that long. Anyway, the daughter I'm going to visit wants to see the dog.

Congratulations on your retirement and on reaching three score years and ten. Sadly, the lockdown rules mean you have to stay at home all the time now.

943 803 I'm tired and super cranky. Thankfully we're going on holiday in 2 weeks. Not far away, but it has an indoor pool and it's just nice to be out with the the three of us for a week.

943 801 Happy birthday! Or was the retirement not directly linked to your birthday? Not directly. We normally retire at seventy but my birthday was some months ago, so, for church purposes I am now sixty-nine and five quarters. Remarkable. We are saying Morning and Evening Prayer on Facebook live at the moment. This evening I read the service from the Rectory study for the last time, a poignant moment. The video has been watched by 27 people so far ... and that is fairly typical: even for a said weekday service. I guess that it is the convenience of not having to go out and also of hearing the Office at a time that fits with your programme rather than having to be there 'on the dot'.

943 800 We are saying Morning and Evening Prayer on Facebook live at the moment. Are you OK with the vagaries of Facebook transmission?

No ... it's ghastly! Transmitting Evening Prayer is an 'act of faith' in every possible way. Sometimes it won't start, other times it gives up before the end - and just occasionally it does what it should but with variable picture quality.
It is, however, better than nothing and when I checked just now, 47 people had viewed me reading EP last night.

47 is really good for a week night. Double that number if couples are watching.

943 797 When I was doing Wednesday morning Eucharist in the church, I was lucky if there were 3 people attending. Now that I'm doing Zoom Morning Prayer I've doubled my attendance! (It's still only 6... )

Obviously, they find it easier because they don't have to get out of bed! Six is still quite good if most of the church is elderly because older people are often technologically challenged.

They call in on Zoom, by phone or in person? Why then do you use Zoom?

We use Zoom for the virtual coffee morning, for shared prayer and for church officers' 'meetings' - I also 'go' to school governor meetings with Zoom although I think we are going to be changing to Microsoft Teams for those.

I had a phone call the other day from the Christie - I have six-monthly checkups. My consultant's secretary asked, would I mind a phone call instead of a face-to-face appointment? Of course, I agreed but I suggested a Zoom meeting instead because I have difficulty hearing phone calls. No way could they do that because it wasn't part of their strict protocol system. But they do Microsoft Teams. Having learnt how to use Zoom, WhatsApp, Messenger and YouTube, I don't want to be bothered with yet another video technology. My brain is full.

943 791 They call in on Zoom, by phone or in person? Why then do you use Zoom? I prefer Zoom rather than conference calls because of my hearing problems. With Zoom, I can use both ears. Plus I don't have to hold a phone and a prayer book at the same time.
