A friend of mine went to Curry's with her young-looking 27 year-old daughter to buy a fridge freezer the other day. When it came to pay for it, her daughter fished out her credit card. The salesman was astonished. "Are you paying for it," he asked, "I thought you were about 12 years old." Some people do look young.

943 518 I remember that when I first started teaching at age 25 I was always being mistaken for a student. And I was teaching in elementary school...

943 516 A few days ago someone kindly posted through our door a photocopy of a letter that the council was supposed to have sent us two weeks ago. Road closed from today until Friday, it said, access may be restricted. Today we found out what that meant.

Presumably workmen can only work half the year in Montreal because of the snow and ice in winter and the oppressive heat in summer.

No, they work all year, unless its colder than -30C (I believe). And we have what's called the "Construction Holiday" during the last two weeks of July when all construction stops in Quebec and the workers go on holiday.

943 512 We have that holiday too, only ours lasts almost 6 weeks. It's called "The Build".

Our warm season is so short that 6 weeks off would mean the workers would not have much time working in the nice weather.

We attended our first service in church after lockdown yesterday, along with about 35 people other people. Chairs were carefully arranged six feet apart, people were asked to wear masks and there was no singing. We even had an overhead projector so that the congregation didn't need to use leaflets or books. It mostly went well after the curate had reminded people not to move around, swap chairs or hug each other. It was a communion service but without the wine. But it's rather a pity the vicar coughed into his hand immediately before handing out the wafers (wafers instead of bread). OK, he did try to sanitise his hands after coughing but sanitising doesn't kill all of the germs.)
Ho hum.

We're back in church at 9 am on Sundays now, along with a 10 am Zoom service. No communion yet --maybe in a couple of weeks. At the first service there were 9 of us and yesterday there were 7. The Zoom services are by far the most popular, but that may change once we start offering communion.

943 504 Oh dear, the local care home has put one of their normal long-term leaflets through our door. On the front page there is a photo of a smiling resident and the words, "We're Welcoming New Residents". Quite ironic, really

943 503 I don't get it I think.
At yoga class my teacher is sometimes a bit overenthusiastic. I was supposed to do an exercise on hands and knees and I should keep my knees together... whilst there's a big belly in the way. Sorry, no can do. The other expecting women aren't as far along as I am so most of them still managed though.

No, I have trouble with shoes. I normally wear black ones when I go walking but today I wore my brown ones. They, or rather the left shoe, put pressure on the fourth toe, which had already been damaged on a walk six months ago.
