I've had a lovely relaxed week as the parish work runs down ... I think I am going to be able to enjoy this retirement effort ...

Hello counters of EF!
Clocks have changed (end of daylight saving / summer time) in Britain and Finland and I assume also in Germany, the Netherlands, and other European countries not represented here very often. (Does Mordor have "summer" or indeed "daylight" to save?)
So we had a long weekend .. 1 hour longer.

It's next week for us. I have a baptism that day with at least 10 people coming to the church. I hope they don't show up an hour early!

943 393 One year when the clocks went forward in the Spring, I forgot to change my alarm clock and got up an hour later than intended. Unfortunately, I was on sound duty at the church that morning and arrived 20 minutes into the service. The music group was highly amused

943 395 Does Mordor have "summer" or indeed "daylight" to save? Indeed, we do have summer and - of course - like all things Mordorian, it is GLORIOUS! The bright beams bouncing off Mt. Doom, the spoil tips glistening in the heat and all the relics of our glorious industrial heritage, in which we were far in advance of other nations, like the vile Ghodorheans next door, to take a random example!! But now the winter storms have begun ... they are just ... glorious ... 943 391

One side of my family called off in person Thanksgiving. The other is still going ahead with it. I don't know if that's a good idea, but I am looking forward to seeing people. Will be the first time my boyfriend has met my extended family. And also my sister, who will be home from the convent.

It's official*, the UK government is making an announcement at 4pm today (Saturday), which many people believe will be about a month-long lockdown for England starting on Wednesday.
* The fact that an announcement will be made is official, speculation of its contents is not.

Two hours later than planned, the Johnson person has still not emerged for his press conference:
NEW RULE Never announce that you are definitely going to do something before you have established what you are intending to do.

Someone leaked the details to the press. Other than punishing offenders on the rack and pinion, I'm not sure what else the government could do.

It did, it was scheduled for 4pm yesterday and eventually took place at 6:45pm. Originally, only four cabinet members (the cabinet being the government's executive branch) knew the details before they were leaked to the media so it's my bet a furious cabinet office spent two and a half extra hours trying to change Boris Johnson's mind. One of those must surely have been Steven Baker, who wrote in the Telegraph in May, "Boris Johnson must end the absurd, dystopian and tyrannical lockdown."
We are going into a second lockdown on Thursday.

Just that we're going into lockdown for four weeks. It's not quite as strict as the first lockdown - we are allowed to meet one other person on our exercise walks - but it's nearly the same. And schools will still be open.

943 372 We're in a new lockdown. I'm not sure if I'm still allowed to post here. You have to be 1.5 metres away* ... from everything ... including your laptop ... * 2 metres for UK readers; there is no equivalent in Mordor, Her Omnicity the Sauron has forbidden anyone from catching the virus.

943 371 Seems like a smart move. Our politicians should have been as decisive as Sauron. Dare I ask about the punishment for those non-compliant though?
