943 310 Sometimes not having anything to do can be nice I understand Elon Musk's Starship experienced an RUD on landing. That's the code word for a rapid unscheduled disassembly. In other words, it crashed! After suffering poor mobile signals at home, I've switched mobile phone provider from O2 to EE. It's much cheaper and the signal strength is much stronger (typically ten times stronger). I should have done that months ago. I can now make a phone call without it cutting out.

943 311 Being retired is strange. I keep feeling that I should be doing something ... and Behold! there's absolutely nothing I should be doing! 943 309 There are many things you should be doing, as a retired person. There are expectations! Gardening. Shooing kids off your lawn. Writing stern letters to the Mordorian equivalent of The Times about the kids who mess up your lawn.

943 308 I walked five miles today delivering church Christmas cards and shopping for bread and a other essentials and my legs ache all over. My main concern was that I touched 150 gateposts and door flaps* and so being slightly neurotic I made sure I washed my hands thoroughly afterwards. * Thirty years ago, I worked out I could deliver 300 cards an hour but that was when I ran everywhere round the houses. Now I've slowed down to 100 an hour

943 307 I think 100 an hours still sounds really good!

There's a council estate near where I live with rows of 1960-style terraced houses, some sold off to private tenants, others still owned by the council. And there in the middle of a row of terraces, on the wall next the house was a charging station for a Tesla electric car. Sadly, I didn't get to see the car because it wasn't in the drive (and there wasn't a garage because, you know, council tenants can't afford cars).

943 305 I see at least 2 or 3 teslas every day. Must live in an upscale town or something.

943 303 I don't recall ever seeing one in Marple but maybe that's because I don't know what one looks like If the dimensions of tie-handle food & freezer bag is 290mm x 546mm, what is its volume and will it fit our pedal bin? So is 290mm the diameter and 546mm the height? Or is 290mm the height and 546mm the circumference? Or what? The packet of bags does say it's large but how large is large?

Bin liner dimensions are a complete mystery to me.

If they had just said, "Laid out flat, the bag measures 29cm x 17cm, not counting the handles," we would have known exactly how big it was.

But that would have been far less fun and also not reduced the post count by the two contributions extracted from you by the situation - not to mention the two replies.
Large, by the way, is bigger than medium.

943 299 I really struggled with this news item on the BBC website: "Ventilator blast kills Turkey coronavirus patients" Why on earth are turkeys being treated for coronavirus, I thought? It's sad that a ventilator blast killed them but why did this happen? It turns out that coronavirus patients in Turkey had been killed Oh, dear, not what I thought at all.

The people who write the item heading for the BBC seem ignorant of adjectives and pronouns ... if the person had written Turkish it would have been far more clear but that seems to be outside their stylebook.

943 294 Apparently my computer was not set to maternity leave and has now been hard locked. Aka, I need to go to the office to swap it for a new one. Same for my phone. What a joke.
