The Anglican Church of Canada just held its General Synod where the church business is discussed. One of the items was a proposition to allow same-sex marriages in the church (it's been legal in Canada for some years now, and also done in other denominations like the United Church). The motion was defeated by ONE VOTE. It was hard to hear the pain and despair for the LGBTQ people. So many people were hoping that the church would venture into the 21st century...

No kidding! But lots of Bishops have been saying that they will do ahead with same-sex marriages "as a pastoral initiative" --our Bishop is among those who are trying to move forward. At least...

They did a recount and found out a lay person was counted as clergy, so in effect --it passed after all! But this only means that after 3 years the proposition can be put into Canon Law. Thankfully the Bishops can still allow same-sex marriages at their discretion.
