Weird. I don't think I'll ever be able to see bananas as berries.

It just goes to show the botanists' definition of "berry" (and "fruit" and probably "nut" and "seed" too ...) are more recent usages and don't really attempt to be in line with everyday language usage. It's still true that strawberries and blackberries are berries in normal language. You might as well say that that area where Farmer Giles grows his barley isn't a field, because it lacks the distinct (associative and commutative) addition and multiplication operations required by the mathematical definition of a field.

Tomatoes are fruit but I'd not put one in a fruit salad.

Tomatoes are fruit but I'd not put one in a fruit salad. Yeah, there's a great aphorism along that line... "Knowledge is knowing that tomatoes are fruit. Wisdom is not putting tomatoes in a fruit salad." Likewise with an aubergine. So...What are melons?

I've often seen melons in a fruit salad. Well...melon bits. But did you know that they qualify as 'berries'?

Either way they're all tasty! I had particularly nice watermelon the other day. And strawberries have been fantastic this "winter" season which is weird but they're coming from Queensland which is warm all the time so I guess that makes sense.

Rhubarb crumble is gorgeous (even though rhubarb is not strictly a fruit).

Rhubarb is lovely. Lots of sugar though.
