Not very eco-friendly at least

Yeah...That's what I'd like to know. Where are they coming from.
Around here, stuff like that comes from Mexico, or even places further south. Blueberries come from Chile this time of year.
Also, those first strawberries of the year....the ones most likely grown in hothouses in some semi-tropical location? They tend to be huge, tasteless, and 'woody' in texture. Here, we refer to them as 'California Doorknobs'.

Our blueberries are from Morrocco. I don't buy them.

Does someone give them to you?

In the shop I meant. They were advertising in more than one supermarket chain with cheap blueberries, all from Morocco.

You don't like blueberries?

I do, a lot. I just don't like eating out of season things flown across half the world for my convenience when there are plenty of hungry people and the environment to be concerned about. I'm no Eco warrior but I do think there should be limits.

Well, in most cases, it is for more than 'your convenience'. I doubt they take your convenience in to consideration at all. I think if that if I like blueberries, then having fresh ones for more than three weeks a year is a boon of major proportions. I'm happy that you refuse to partake...that reduces demand on what is provided and keeps the price (of something which should inheritantly cost a pretty penny) down to reasonable. Please, convince more of your friends and family to refuse fresh fruit from someplace else. And, give up fresh citrus fruits entirely....

We tend to buy strawberries from the stalls that pop up all over the city in summer. They seem to taste better, at least that is what Frank says. I love them and wish we could grow our own, but we don't have a garden.

Yes, the same here. But those are tasty because they tend to be local and picked when they are red and ripe....not picked while still green in hopes that it will 'ripen' along its way to the market. Here, the sweetest and most flavorful strawberries are a specific cultivar known as 'Hood' strawberries, or 'Hoodies', as locals call them. They are not big berries, nor are they particularly pretty; they can be quite misshapen. But, often, they were picked just the day before. Of course, the even more adventurous with a vehicle can travel to the exurbs where there are vast acres of 'U-pick' farms where one can gather their own.

I bought a raspberry stick ages ago but I never got round to planting it and then forgot. I used to get wild blackberries in the back garden - not been out there for a while though.

I only buy fruit that's grown in Australia - though being such a huge country it can still have traveled quite far. But really, one can't grow mangoes in Melbourne. We have lovely strawberries over winter but it's because they come from Queensland which is tropical in summer and mild in winter. For tropical people, strawberries are a winter fruit.
What's wrong with buying fresh citrus?

Nothing. I buy Texas grapefruit. I'm not sure from where the limes and lemons come, but I'm quite sure it's not Canada.

Lemons and limes...California, Florida, or Mexico.

My friend was telling me yesterday that she buys the navel oranges from California because they're the best. But I don't like buying imported fruit.
