Last night I had a nightmare about a wounded dog who was tied up with chains that kept stalking me. I would go into a building and it would come around the back, or I'd go off in one direction and find it following me. I woke up with my heart pounding. Then once I had calmed down, I realized the dream represented my dog Téa who is suffering more and more from arthritis.
I decided to call the vet to see if I could do anything about it, and I have now learned how to give her injections sub-subcutaneously. It was easier than I feared, thank goodness. I was freaked out at the idea of giving my dog a needle. Hopefully these meds will help her and I'll stop having nightmares...

How old is she now? It is hard to watch pets getting older but .. wonderful for old animals to still have the love and companionship of their owners. Too many animals seem to be abandoned in old age, perhaps due to vet costs, and it is heartbreaking.

She's going on 12 --not an unreasonable age for a dog, but she's been suffering from allergies since she was two, and I'm sure the meds we give her for that have taken their toll. I could never abandon my dog, but it's so hard to see her diminished and in pain.

yes I wish our pets had longer lifespans. Am already worrying about Pip getting old.

I'm thinking my cats may outlive me.

Assuming dog years are equivalent to 7 years, Honey overtook me in October. She still acts like a small child, however.

Our family dog Lizzy died when she was 14. I still miss her sometimes. And I can't imagine losing our guinea-pigs one day.

Binkie is 16 now, but you can see he is very old: he's lost all the muscle tissue at his backside, his teeth are falling out and he is generally very stiff in his joints. However, he is still a happy dog. Last weekend we had snow and he loves that a lot, you'd almost think he was a puppy!

I think as long as they are fairly healthy and not in pain old age can be a good time for dogs .. lots of spoiling and love
