I planted many different seeds in my front garden, but all that seems to come up is grass. Why!? I planted in May. It should have long sprouted.

I often used to have difficulty with seeds. I frequently planted three or four in each spot in the hope that one of them would germinate. Do you slugs, birds or squirrels eating them? I once tried germinating carrots inside the house but when a carrot starts to grow, it sends down one 20cm very thin thread, which eventually grows into the carrot. So when I transplanted the seedlings into the garden, they grew into corkscrew shapes.

Lots of birds, but with the amount of seeds I've planted I'd expect at least some to make it.

I tried to plant wildflowers out back a cpl years ago. Only about one sprouted even though there were zillions of seeds.

Aren't wildflowers by definition ones that you don't plant?

Carrots can't be transplanted (as you discovered) get hold of some large deep pots (I use the buckets the supermarkets get flowers in) Wet your compost before sowing and again after, sow indoors in March and move to outdoors in May, problem is they need good light as soon as they germinate.
