This thread is to discuss, rant, pontificate, rage, speculate, and whimper over the final weeks of the already way too long debacle of US elections.
For a sense of context, I want to establish a baseline and turn to the Republicans themselves, the bad precedent's closest advisors in this case, as presented by Republicans:

Please note that the bad precedent and his duly appointed agents are in the process of 'knee-capping' the national postal service to impede voting by mail. He and his Postmaster General appointee have both admitted as much. Postal sorting machines are being shut down and mail allowed to back up. Evidently all to prove that 'vote by mail' is inherently unsafe and some kind of horrendous scam. And yet, today, he applied for an absentee ballot for his Mar A Lago resort address. An absentee ballot is nothing but 'vote by mail'.

Wouldn't it be amazing if he tried to vote in multiple states and was charged with voter fraud?

I hope that the USPS makes sure that he gets his ballot (which is sent out via USPS) too late to vote.

Hmmm....New Postmaster is hauled before Congress and produces a list of things he will do/not do between now and the elections.
Can he be trusted? Well, he gave millions to the Trump campaign. So, no.
I will still walk my complete ballot to where the county elections office staff will personally handle it and it will NOT go through any post box or post office of the USPS. I will encourage as many of my fellow voters to do the same. I will try to make that information available to other voters in my community.
I can visualize the postal workers union organizing to collect ballots in communities and assure that they reach the appropriate elections authorities to be counted on time.
I hope to see a spontaneous outpouring of enthusiasm to invest in GOTV.
President is important, but down-ballot is important, too, especially in this year of census.

And, the Senate Majority Leader is in this up to his eyebrows.

The sitting bad precedent refuses to assure the peaceful transition of power should he lose the election.
Would anybody care to dispute my repeated claims here that Trump is a fascist?

No, I've never disputed that he was a fascist.
When are the Presidential debates?

Evidently, it is tomorrow evening. The first one, at least. As if there might be others. I don't know. I don't care.

As far as elections go, America couldn't play it any more dramatically as President Trump and Melania test positive for Covid-19. They will probably win the sympathy vote and become heroes amongst Republicans if they both bounce back after a few days.

This first question I had when I heard it was: "Sez who?"
This is classic 'October Surprise' bullshit. He now goes in to 'quarantine' for...what?...two weeks, and emerges as 'just fine', claims hydrocholorquine protected his sorry ass. For the duration, he gets to sit on said sorry ass and Twitter his shit-for-brains out. I'll believe he was threatened when I see unquestionable pix of him intubated in an ICU bed while little Mikey runs the country.
Get back to me when you've got a reliable source.
I'm hoping for really sterling golfing weather in the tidelands there around Chesapeake Bay for the next couple of weeks.

And now, Goat? I do not think that the hospital would have been complicit in a cover up. But it does bother me that he's got well so quickly - now we get the whole 'it's not that bad' or even worse 'God saved me' shite.

Everybody at Walter Reed is a government employee and operates under HIPAA guidelines.
However, I have put $5 in to a deadpool.

I do not think that the hospital would have been complicit in a cover up. But it does bother me that he's got well so quickly. We know from the Nixon cover-up that it doesn't work if more than four or five people are involved. I'm confused about the speed of recovery too... if it is a recovery. But he has had two novel treatments, not yet authorised for general use. I imagine the infusion of antibodies probably had the greatest effect.

Trump was on my 2020 deadpool list actually. Not that I wish death on anyone of course

Post by whollygoats on Oct 8, 2020 3:17:29 GMT
Well....I can't say I don't wish death on him, because I have. I just don't want to create a martyr. I'd much rather see him suffer a huge defeat, followed by a lurid and sensational trial and a lengthy prison sentence. A natural death via Covid would certainly clear the decks, though.
