My my, I'm counting down to my holiday without husband and kids, Youngest's birthday, weekend away with family and friends and Sinterklaas first. This year no obligatory family dinner on Christmas eve since my grandmother passed away either so for the first time in my life we can decide the flow of our Christmas ourselves.

And I have started buying Christmas presents already. Unless we still somehow figure out a way to visit my in-laws in Birmingham without having to plan in an extra several hundred pounds for Covid-tests, we Weill spend Christmas here in Bremen, probably on our own. Last year we ended up inviting the pastor from the church I attend for Christmas Day since he is British and doesn't have family here. Maybe we will get to invite someone this time as well.

They are pretty expensive. I paid €158 euros for the before-travel test in Finland - might have found something cheaper but not by much - and £65 for the "day 2" test in England. And you'd have to do two sets, assuming Malcolm doesn't need testing.

Isn't proof of vaccination enough?

Not for England. Not even for citizens vaccinated by the NHS returning from countries that Britain has designated "green list". It's pretty stupid - and/or a money-making scam for the government's buddies.
The only places you can travel from without tests are the "common travel area", UK, Ireland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.

I have not checked whether Man has its own covid policies, or follows England's ... or Wales's ... or Northern Ireland's ... or Ireland's.
If you could get into the Isle of Man you'd still have to stay there for 10 days because the rule in England considers countries you've been in in the past 10 days.

I have now checked! Pathway 1 no isolation or testingIf I'm reading this right, no testing is required on arrival for double-vaccinated people with specific vaccines and an EU covid passport. But of course the cost of 10 days accommodation on the island would be more than the cost of the tests ...

I'm not even sure if Malcolm wouldn't have to be tested. At the moment, tests here are still free, but I understand we would have to get tested when arriving in Britain. Someone said we would even need tests again after a few days.

I've bought 2 small things to put in Christmas stockings (I do stockings only at Christmas). This year I have another little stocking to fill --my new grandson's!

Not that big, luckily! I already drop a small fortune each year on the ones I offer, since I have to make 7, now 8! of them every Christmas.

Oh? Did I miss Tasha getting a partner? Your son only has 2 kids right? I'm miscounting somewhere...
I've bought small Sinterklaas presents for the girls as well as one for myself. A calendar. So exciting... need one every new year anyway so might as well call it a present.

There's 8 people getting stockings: Chris (son), wife Robyn and son Leo; Laurence (daughter) fiance David and son Nathaniel; and Tasha (daughter) and boyfriend Bruno --who we all call Pruneau.

Miscounted a grandchild and missed a partner. Great job counting and keeping up with the lives of others, Mari. *rolls eyes at self*
We don't do stockings but Sinterklaas has a similar tradition of putting a shoe near the fireplace and placing a small gift in it before the kids wake up in the morning.
