But I really do want to know who the BBC presenter who is currently implicated in a sex scandal involving a minor is. Apart from anything else, every single bloke in the BBC is now under suspicion, which might not be great for them

No! Naughty Moose! Down!
OK yes I also want to know. But since the latest is that the lawyer for the "young person" has stated that the allegations that the parents made to the Sun were rubbish, and more importantly since it's really bad for someone to be accused in the media when not proven and possibly completely innocent, I think it's good that the names are being kept secret.

A BBC presenter on the news on Sunday evening made the point that (a) if he were innocent, the Sun and/or the BBC could be sued for a huge amount of money, and that (b) media presenters deserves privacy. There is a balance between a person's right to privacy and the public's right to know. They were hoping to avoid 'trial by media' but social media often prevents any semblance of privacy, as we know. And I wouldn't be surprised if some idiot MP names him in parliament.
I'm not, of course, defending the presenter or the BBC in any way.

I am only dimly aware of who he is. But yeah, if he's not done anything illegal the media could be in trouble.

He's well liked and is in hospital for depression. I gather he's been suffering from depression for a long time and I think the public are likely to be sympathetic. This won't have done the Sun any favours although they have been keen to emphasise they never said he did anything illegal.

Am I the only one who finds the assertion that "media presenters deserve privacy" is an amusing exercise in cluelessness?

Am I the only one who finds the assertion that "media presenters deserve privacy" is an amusing exercise in cluelessness? It was the BBC News presenter who said that Huw Edwards has a right to privacy and I'm sure the courts would agree. (The British government has not yet revoked its observation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights but it is trying.) Everyone has the right to privacy and it is the person himself who chooses what is private and what is not, not the Sun newspaper. To the tune of several million pounds worth of damages, I guess.

Well it depends if he has broken the law and there seem to be contradictory accounts. It also seems that there are more allegations to come. I sympathise with his depression but it is not in itself a justification for this.

Apparently the young person has themselves denied anything wrong happened, and police have said that no crime was committed, so the person must have been 18 or over at the time. They were on an adult dating site.
Whilst I find it highly distasteful given the age gap and he's married, I do think the gossip and the hypocrisy even more so. The Sun (who broke the news) did, after all, do a countdown to when Samantha Fox could bare all in their newspaper- at 16 years old.

Well, given the ambiguity I'm hearing, I guess we'll see. But the sheer audacity of those who impinge upon the privacy of so many others demanding that THEY, themselves, have some sacrosanct right to privacy is hypocrisy to the extreme; that is the exercise in cluelessness to which I referred. Media types should get all the privacy that they extend to others....and no more.

It'll never happen but it doesn't bode well for The Sun.
