944 420 The Tour of Britain cycle race is scheduled to pass our house on Saturday 14 September. I hope Stockport Council mends the potholes in the road in good time for the race.

Downhill.
The Tour de France passed our house a few years ago but that time they went uphill, at 7:30am on a Sunday morning. Not many people saw them.

I spent the weekend in Cambridge with friends from there. Lots of fun, including walking through Trinity and other colleges after proving our university member status, and punting ... with a Scots terrier on board!

The dog seemed most interested in drinking from the river (since punts ride low this wasn't hard).
Lots of "ooh! a dog!" from other river users.

944 410 I was working in the garden yesterday when a mother and 2 young children passed by. The boy loudly remarked that we've been working on it for a long time now. He's quite right. It's been bare for over a month. Getting my muscle to start work is the real chore though. *rolls eyes*

We've been working on our garden for 33 years. I agree, getting to start work is a real pain. Unfortunately, Nature demands it.

I'm very glad I don't have a garden. (Altough I like to look at other people's.)

944 406 Whenever I weed the garden, Pat ties pieces of wool around the plants that are not weeds so that I don't pull them up

Either Pat has lots of wool (and time) (and patience) ... or you don't have many desirable plants compared to the number of weeds?

Most of the plants in my garden are what some would call weeds but I call "self-sown" and "well suited to the environment" (the environment includes me not weeding and not watering much).
Valerian, brunnera, aquilegia (which really is quite pretty), phygelius, california poppy (also pretty), corydalis, herb robert, even buddleia (which I will admit to pruning).

944 403 Yes and no. It's a bit hit and miss. Valerian, brunnera, aquilegia (which really is quite pretty), phygelius, california poppy (also pretty), corydalis, herb robert, even buddleia (which I will admit to pruning). I've heard of a buddleia bush. Not any of the others though.

My church has installed a new video projection unit but the installation engineers didn't earth the aerial that transmits the signal. As a result, we can only use our tie clip mic when the video projector is switched off. A bit annoying.

I will pray for your aerial to be earthed.

944 393 No, please don't do that, we want it to work Apparently, the installers came yesterday, adjusted the direction of aerial by about 10° and accidentally left the cable in contact with an iron bolt on the church pillar. (Possibly one that was there when the church was built.) That effectively provided an earth through the pillar. It seems they left without realizing they had accidentally fixed it. One of our sound operators found it and used gaffer tape to make it more secure.

So, wait, is it fixed? Even if accidentally?

Yes it is, provided no one dusts the ledge next to the pillar or accidentally knocks the aerial a couple of millimetres. We are using both the tie clip mic and the video projector for a one o'clock wedding tomorrow so I'm praying no one will interfere with it before then.
