Slightly to my surprise I found myself listening to the 'world premier' of some of the music from the upcoming Hobbit movie on the UK Classic FM station this evening. The score is Howard Shore again and although there was a deal of new material both the Hobbiton and Elven leitmotive popped their heads over the parapet.
Encouraging.

Having now seen the film I was interested in the way that Shore included quite a lot of LOTRF musical themes at the beginning of the Hobbit to get us settled in and gradually introduced more new material as the second reel progressed.
The strongest theme seems to me to be the Erebor tune - not least when sung a capella by the Dwarves in Bag End.

I absolutely love listening to soundtracks and I thought the Hobbit OST was wonderful. I loved the familiarity of the LOTR themes and the new tracks unique to the Hobbit, Howard Shore is a very talented composer.
I agree with Fr Gruesome about the Misty Mountains song sung by the dwarf cast - it is certainly one of the highlights of the entire album.
