I went to the doctor's this morning and the nurse measured my blood pressure. It was 130/60. According to a couple of sites, the high number indicates high blood pressure (it's at the top end of normal) whilst the low number indicates low blood pressure (it's at the bottom end of normal).
Normal values in the UK are: values above 90/60 and below 130/80. Desired values in the US: values above 90/60 and below 120/80
Strictly speaking, I'm in the normal range but the diastolic reading were 1 mm lower, would I have high or low blood pressure?

I'd be quite happy with that. Typical for me would be about 130/80 but it can vary and sometimes i get three different readings one after the other.

In this situation, systolic pressure is more meaningful than diastolic. The 60 is a really great number, so I'd say all in all your BP is normal. (In the US is it really below 120 now? Boy, have those pharmaceutical companies done a number on those numbers, so to speak. It used to be 130. Anything to sell more medication. :

Thanks, Karen. FaceBook commentors say, stop taking your blood pressure!

When I had to have knee surgery a while back, the nice nurse who tried to take my blood pressure for the pre-op could not find a measurement at all. This is unusual in someone who is alive ...

That's those divines for you. You and the fakir. ;D
I'm a classic hypertension case. My most recent blood pressure measurement was 210/120. Very high on both scales. I am happy when my disystolic (bottom number) is at or around 90. My top number should ideally at at or near 120, but it has not seen that in probably fifteen years. I'm on four medications now for hypertension, the fourth just added after a referred visit to a nephrology/hypertension specialist.
I am a prime heart attack/stroke victim. My doctor just recently had me in for an ultrasound of my heart....results came back very, very good. *phew*
So...now the objective once again will be to try to make my kidneys outlast me.
Tangent? Your blood pressure numbers are admirably normal. You should be quite happy, as your pressure is neither high, nor low.

The medics are always worried about my wife's BP but it is mostly quite good. Trouble is she suffers from 'white coat syndrome' and it usually goes through the roof in the surgery. They have been worrying about it for about 15 years now but she's still here.
