The fall colors are one thing I love about living in the north east. I didn't feel they were as vibrant in the south.

The fall colors are one thing I love about living in the north east. I didn't feel they were as vibrant in the south. Well, I've seen bits of the Blue Ridge Parkway, and although it was June, I could well imagine that autumn there might give the northeast a run for its money. At the time, they were doing really great low-lying morning fog scenes. Otherwise, I can't really compare, as I've never seen 'the South' in foliage change. I have seen New England and Quebec and the Maritimes in full-on autumnal foliage change. I even saw upper New York from the west coast of New England, looking across Champlain Sea. It was purdy. I thought that Cape Breton Island held the top place as 'scenic foliage color champion'.

That, plus, since my darling wife was a former Celtic harper and a aficianado of Celtic music, we could have spent weeks drifting from roadhouse to roadhouse, picking up unique indigenous tunes...a loverly mix of Scots and Breton music styles in folk tunes flourishes on the island.
We fell in love with Cape Breton Island and Halifax.

Come to think of it, I suspect the 'less vibrant' foliage is probably due to intrusion of greater proportions of evergreens. That is what subdues any foliage change around here...It's mostly evergreen conifers; plus, the deciduous trees which predominate in the wild in this area are not very diverse, nor are the particular dominant species very colorful at season change. (Lots of yelows, pumpkin pie brown, and khaki. Very few reds.)

I've been in southern Vermont in the early fall, and it's gorgeous!

I remember British Columbia and Alberta in early fall. That was amazing and it made leaving so much harder.
