Another very busy week one way and another but very fulfilling as well. No really big steps in any particular direction, the lawyers are still working on the house sale and purchase contracts, I had a lovely eight hours in the provincial archive gathering the last little bits and pieces of relevant data ... and have continued to adjust the contents of the presbytery in case the move ever comes to fruition.
Oh and I have made a significant purchase from Modellbau Henke of Berlin, another little engine for the 1/45 Austrian railway; probably the last one I shall buy because the few types of machine that I would be interested in are unlikely ever to be produced by any of the artisinal firms and my skill level would not really produce outcomes that would match the three Henkeloks that I have bought. Besides, they are like Land Rovers: it is possible to have just a few too many.

Depending on where you live I'd say 1 landrover can be too many.

Yep, you're not wrong ...
... so I have returned: I have been somewhat to the north of Carcaroth, well most of a day's drive on the autoroute in fact, staying in a holiday apartment in the attic of a lovely historic house adjacent to an ancient burial site with a whole series of wonderful mounds. Some have been excavated and remarkably rich grave goods recovered. The site is partly open to the public in day time but was wonderfully deserted in the late evening, nothing better than take a quiet walk around the, historically later, execution ground in the gathering gloom.
Speaking of gloom, how are you all?

Oh my goodness what an afternoon ... a very trying funeral where the family reacted to their grief by going into total and utter dither mode, everything became a problem and we committed the worst possible sin of all ... the service over-ran the time slot at the crem chapel, they'll be lucky not to be charged double. I thought that the son in law was giving the eulogy. He did then he invited a grandson to read another five messages, which I was absolutely not expecting ... nothing I could do.
I was somewhat less than totally happy.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr ...

I think if you check your bible that there's worse sins... I don't even think that one's in the top ten! Maybe it'd be better if these things were planned further in advance. Try putting up a sign that says "Don't overrun or we may charge you extra or throw you out, mid-service!"

The crem chapel has just such a sign ... but nobody thinks they mean it ...

If it's a crematorium, they could just push everyone still there at the end of the slot into the furnace!

Horrid child!
The rules about speed are very strict: the remains should be in the furnace within five minutes of the scheduled end of the service, the new machines at our local are very efficient and can operate at thirty minute headways.
Best not to make any mistakes then.

Workshop time has been very productive indeed. Six new coaches well underway: this is before spray painting. And this is the batch prototype (1/01) painted and on its chassis. The plan is to build all six and then sell two on eBay to reduce the unit cost to me of the ones that I shall keep. I will then move on to a second batch of the sort with silver framed drop-light windows and do the same thing. The unit cost of each coach about €45 most of which is the cost of the etched brass body and roof which I commissioned specially from my own drawings. The running gear is commercial but heavily rebuilt. It is just so relaxing to be able to go into the workshop and do this kind of handicraft - especially with the kind of emotional burdens that get dumped on anyone who is engaged in active ministry.

I'm sure it's relaxing when you have any sort of creative ability. I'd just find it extremely frustrating They look good, Fr. G! Still nothing on the house?

Funerals? I do a lovely funeral, everyone says so ...
No, nothing on the house Mari ... very worrying because I cannot expect the person whose house I want to buy to wait for ever for the 'chain' to be restored: his house is very sellable - it was only on the market 45 minutes before my bid went in!!
